Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract position guiding K-12 students towards greater independence and confidence. This unique opportunity allows either a combined Orientation and Mobility (O&M)/Vision Impairment (VI) professional or two separate specialists to make a meaningful difference with a manageable caseload in a supportive educational environment.
Key Details:
Contract period: August 3, 2026 - May 28, 2027 Flexible structure: Serve as a dual-certified O&M/VI provider or as individual O&M and VI specialists
Hours:
Up to 16 per month total; or 8 per role, supporting a small group of up to 4-6 K-12 students The focus is on a handful of students in need of expert services for
Orientation and Mobility What You'll Need:
Current, valid certification in Orientation and Mobility and/or Vision Impairment Experience or genuine interest in working with K-12 students in an educational setting A collaborative mindset to liaise with teachers, families, and support staff Effective communication skills and compassion for varying student abilities
Core Responsibilities:
Conduct assessments to determine students' O&M needs Develop and implement individualized instructional plans to enhance safe navigation and mobility skills Provide direct instruction both on campus and in community settings Monitor progress, maintaining clear and thorough documentation Work closely with other educators and families to facilitate student success Imagine shaping the confidence and self-reliance of young learners in a flexible, low-caseload position that truly puts your skills to work.
