10-Month Position Purpose:
In addition to regular responsibilities, P-8 faculty are expected to contribute to the broader school community and support program growth. This includes building a strong sense of community for students, promoting a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, engaging in professional development and training opportunities, and attending required meetings and events, such as Director's Days, Open Houses, accreditation meetings, and class overnight trips, as directed by your supervisor. The Campus Minister collaborates with the Campus Ministry team and Religious Studies department to implement a vibrant, student-centered program and curriculum that addresses the spiritual, ethical, and emotional needs of a religiously diverse student population. Essential Functions Commit to live out the values of the Sacred Heart education as articulated in the Network of Sacred Heart Schools Goals and Criteria and to integrate them into the fabric of personal and school life. Work with the P8 Principal, P8 Assistant Principal for Student Life, the Assistant Director for Pastoral Care and the Director of Mission and Ministry to develop and implement a coherent prayer and worship program for Preschool•8. Collaborate with middle school advisory programs to develop mission aligned activities and lessons, as well as implement Middle School liturgical preparation. Collaborate with Middle School Religion teachers and the Middle School Director of Curriculum and Instruction to implement a coherent retreat program rooted in the charism of the RSCJ. Alongside the Assistant Director for Apostolic Outreach, lead the development of a Middle School Service Program that is embedded into the Middle School religion curriculum, finding curricular connections and opportunities to engage in meaningful service throughout class time, advisory, and off-campus opportunities. Support Religion teachers (2nd grade and 8th grade) as well as the Assistant Director for Pastoral Care in preparing students for the Sacraments, including but not limited to creating worship aids and materials, presenting at family information nights, as well as developing a coherent family formation program, supporting practices prior to the liturgies, and attending formation meetings with the students. Prepare and co-lead the 8th grade Confirmation Retreat, collaborating with the 8th grade Religion teacher on content and focus for the year. Support the Assistant Director for Pastoral Care with the proper collection and submission of all paperwork for the Sacraments and work with them to create a reasonable timeline for submission. As needed, assist the Lower School teachers with weekly chapel services for the elementary students. Collaborate with the Office of Mission and Ministry to prepare two all-school liturgies a year (Mass of the Holy Spirit & Feast of Madeleine Sophie Barat) and any other special feasts as directed by the Assistant to the Director for Pastoral Care or the Director of Mission and Ministry Collaborate with the Office of Mission and Ministry and the Assistant for Pastoral Care and the Prep Campus Minister for Liturgies to prepare and serve at Community Masses throughout the year Collaborate with the Montessori specialist at the Preschool on Formation Friday sessions. Provide pastoral care and a loving, safe, secure, engaging program and environment for students; including preparing students to minister during prayer services and Masses as well as lead prayer at public assemblies. Participate in formation to Mission programs sponsored by the Network of Sacred Heart Schools. Collaborate with Choral/Instrumental music teachers to prepare students for participation in school liturgies. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Ministry or related field. Masters degree in appropriate field, e.g., Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Ministry, Catholic School Leadership is strongly preferred. Three (3) or more years of experience in relevant campus ministry and teaching. Experience planning and leading retreats, service learning, or other spiritual formation activities. A clear commitment to the mission and educational philosophy of Sacred Heart Schools as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education in the United States and Canada and professional behavior based on it. Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and access, as well as inter-faith and inter-religious dialogue/education. Demonstrated ability to teach in a creative and charismatic style that provides a profound and sincere experience of Sacred Heart and Catholic principles and inspires adolescents to a deeper involvement in both. Commitment to active collaboration with colleagues around planning and instruction, as well as, a willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum. Fluency in reading, writing and speaking in English; excellent verbal and written skills, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills. Additional skills in Spanish and/or Mandarin are valued and preferred. Demonstrated experience working with underrepresented students specifically, low-income, first-generation, and racially/ethnically diverse student population. Strong cultural competency and pastoral sensitivity regarding transgender and gender non-conforming youth and their families. Demonstrated experience facilitating affinity groups. Exhibits a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well across a variety of multicultural, multi-experience, multi-background audiences including students, staff, administration, parents and the community at large. Must be able to work independently with little supervision and work well on interdisciplinary teams. Knowledge of trends and issues in theology, campus ministry, and faith formation. Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend events. Must be available to travel domestically and internationally with minors. Must be able to drive a van with a valid California driver's license with a clean driving record. Clearance will be subject to California Vehicle Report review and Sacred Heart Schools insurance standards. Excellent attendance and punctuality. Physical Requirements and Work Environment Regularly sit, talk, hear and interact with students, parents, staff and visitors. Works in a highly dynamic and sometimes stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts. Ability to travel safely and comfortably across a 64-acre campus. Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. Regularly uses close and distance vision and works at a desk and computer screen for extended periods of time. Turn, bend, reach and occasionally use a ladder.
