SUNRISE RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION JOB TITLE
Park Maintenance Assistant-Custodian (Hourly Intermittent)
DIVISION
Parks & Facilities
CLASS DEFINITION
Maintains District buildings and adjacent areas in a clean, neat and orderly condition; sets-up and arranges furniture and equipment for program activities, community use and special events; replenishes restroom supplies and monitors inventory of custodial supplies and equipment; maintains and safely operates electrical and battery powered scrubbers, buffers, vacuums and associated cleaning equipment; and performs related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Custodian classification is a full journey level classification. This classification is distinguished from the Park Maintenance Worker I/II classification series in that the essential duties performed by incumbents classified as Custodian are focused on maintaining the cleanliness of District buildings and adjacent areas while incumbents classified as Park Maintenance Workers I/II perform maintenance, repair and construction work required to develop and maintain District parks, buildings and recreation facilities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED
Receives general supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures from a Park Maintenance Worker III responsible for assigned area of District to which the position is assigned. Incumbents in this classification do not provide supervision or direction to others.
EXAMPLE OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following: Cleans and sanitizes restroom facilities and fixtures; unclogs toilets as needed Sweeps, mops, scrubs, strips, waxes and polishes floors; vacuums, shampoos and steam cleans rugs and carpets Dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork, cabinets, fixtures and equipment; empties and cleans waste receptacles; and washes walls and windows Sweeps and washes outside walkways, patios and entrances to facilities; and locks and unlocks buildings Sets up, assembles, moves, rearranges and takes down chairs, tables and other furniture and equipment following written instructions, oral directions or upon request for program activities, meetings, community use and other events Replenishes restroom supplies and monitors inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment Paints walls and woodwork on a scheduled and as-needed basis; performs minor routine maintenance tasks; and observes and reports the need for building and equipment repairs, and the existence of safety and sanitary hazards Utilizes proper safety precautions in the operation of buffers, scrubbers, and other cleaning equipment and machinery

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience Guidelines:
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical path to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: one year of experience performing custodial and maintenance work; and formal or informal education that ensures the ability to communicate, read and write at a level required for successful job performance
Knowledge of:
methods, tools, and equipment used in basic building maintenance and custodial work safe work practices cleaning solvents, soaps, waxes and other chemicals used for custodial work good public relations etiquette Ability to: perform manual labor for extended periods of time understand and implement oral and written directions read and understand cleaning chemical labels work with minimal guidance and supervision lift, carry, and pull equipment and supplies weighing up to 60 pounds establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, the general public, and those contacted during the course of work perform essential duties of the job without causing harm to self or others
Licenses/Certification Required:
Possession of a valid class C California Driver's license and a satisfactory driving record
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions:
Essential duties of the Custodian classification are primarily performed inside within a controlled environment, but some duties are performed outside under varying weather conditions. Incumbents work with hands in water; are exposed to dust, allergens, chemicals, solvents, and electrical energy on a daily basis; and frequently work on slippery and uneven surfaces, in confined spaces, experience vibrations of extremities while operating equipment, and work around equipment with moving parts.
Physical Conditions:
Essential duties of the Custodian classification requires repetitive use of feet and hands to operate equipment and tools; to feel the attributes of objects by touch; to verbally exchange ideas and information; to hear to receive detailed verbal information and instruction; to be able to view objects within one to twenty feet and differentiate basic colors; to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on slippery surfaces; to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, and walk on a daily basis to accomplish custodial and maintenance duties; to lift, carry, push, and pull a variety of objects weighing between 10 and 60 pounds and to have the finger dexterity and hand strength to grasp and operate tools and equipment on a daily basis.
