Parkinson's Exercise Program Assistant

As a Certified Parkinson's Exercise Program Instructor, you will play a meaningful role in improving the lives of individuals living with Parkinson's by delivering specialized, evidence-based exercise programs in a supportive and empowering environment. This is an opportunity to make a direct impact, build strong relationships, and be part of a mission-driven team focused on helping every individual thrive.
Responsibilities:
Exercise Program Design and Implementation:
  • Support program instructors by proactively identifying participants who need assistance and responding quickly and effectively
  • Provide thoughtful exercise modifications and adjustments to meet a wide range of fitness levels and abilities
Communication and Advocacy:
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of Parkinson's symptoms, progression, and treatment approaches
  • Build meaningful connections by communicating effectively with participants and their care partners
  • Advocate for the life-changing benefits of exercise and wellness
Assessment and Modification:
  • Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment using proper safety protocols
  • Recognize participant needs and provide appropriate, real-time exercise modifications
Instruction and Engagement:
  • Respond appropriately to medical incidents and anticipate participant needs
  • Educate and motivate participants to enhance engagement and long-term success
  • Use behavior change strategies to build confidence, consistency, and community
Adaptability and Flexibility:
  • Monitor and recognize changes in participants' health and abilities
  • Collaborate with program instructors to adjust programming as needed
  • Provide additional attention and care to participants with elevated health concerns
Professionalism and Compliance:
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming environment by following all health and safety guidelines
  • Uphold professional standards to reduce risk and ensure quality program delivery
  • Foster a positive, encouraging, and inclusive atmosphere for all participants
Continuous Learning and Program Alignment:
  • Stay current with best practices and guidelines for Parkinson's exercise programs
  • Participate in trainings, workshops, and staff meetings
  • Maintain open communication to ensure alignment across programs
Community Building:
  • Create a strong sense of belonging, connection, and support among participants
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and camaraderie
Safety and Emergency Procedures:
  • Understand and follow all safety and emergency protocols
  • Report concerns or incidents promptly Supervisors and administrators will:
  • Follow employee and volunteer screening requirements and use screening tools to screen for abuse risk
  • Provide ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk
  • Offer regular feedback regarding boundaries with children and teens
  • Require adherence to all policies and procedures related to abuse risk Qualifications
  • Specialized training or certification in Parkinson's exercise programs
  • Experience working with individuals with Parkinson's disease preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • CPR and First Aid certification required
