Job Description
The City of Arkansas City is seeking a dependable, skilled, and self-motivated Parks & Facilities Maintenance Technician to support maintenance and repair of City parks, facilities, and infrastructure, with a focus on electrical systems, lighting, and traffic signal maintenance. Essential Functions include the following:
Electrical & Traffic Signal Support (Major Focus) Perform basic electrical maintenance and repairs, including lighting systems, outlets, switches, panels (non-licensed work only), and facility electrical components. Assist with maintenance, inspection, and repair of traffic signals, pedestrian signals, signage lighting, and related traffic control infrastructure. Report complex electrical or signal issues requiring licensed or specialized service. Advanced Maintenance & Technical Operations Perform skilled maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of City parks, facilities, buildings, grounds, and related infrastructure. Diagnose maintenance issues and complete repairs in areas such as carpentry, plumbing, concrete, irrigation, and minor construction. Perform preventive maintenance activities to extend the life and safety of City assets. Equipment Operation & Asset Care Operate and maintain a variety of equipment and vehicles, including mowers, tractors, trucks, loaders, lifts, and power tools. Perform routine inspections, servicing, and minor repairs of assigned equipment. Ensure proper use, storage, and care of City tools and assets. Facilities, Parks & Cemetery Support Support maintenance and set up for parks, facilities, programs, events, and rentals. Perform cemetery grounds and facility maintenance tasks as assigned. Assist with seasonal operations including snow removal, debris removal, and storm response. Safety, Documentation & Coordination Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain basic records related to work performed, materials used, and equipment maintenance. Communicate work progress, safety concerns, and repair needs to the supervisor. Administrative & Operational Support Maintain records of work performed, materials used, and equipment maintenance. Ensure compliance with safety procedures and promote safe work practices. Attend required training, certifications, and safety meetings. Perform related duties as assigned.Position Requirements and Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in parks maintenance, facilities maintenance, construction, electrical maintenance, or a related field. Ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Ability to meet the physical demands of the position. Any combination of the above as determined appropriate by the employer. Preferred Qualifications Experience of performing basic electrical maintenance or traffic signal support. Experience with facilities systems, lighting, irrigation, or infrastructure maintenance.Certifications / Licenses
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the employer. Certifications or training related to maintenance trades or equipment operation.Skills / Knowledge
/Abilities:
Technical & Maintenance Knowledge Knowledge of parks, facilities, and grounds maintenance practices. Working knowledge of basic electrical systems and traffic signal components. Equipment & Safety Skills Skill in operating and maintaining maintenance equipment and tools safely. Ability to recognize hazards and follow safety protocols. Work Planning & Independence Ability to plan and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision. Ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues and recommend solutions. Communication & Professional Skills Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the public. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain basic records.Work Environment and Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, and must be able to hear and understand instructions, warnings, and safety signals. The position involves frequent physical activity including standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motion while performing groundskeeping, maintenance, and custodial tasks. The employee operates hand tools, power tools, and motorized maintenance equipment safely. Vision abilities required include close vision for tool operation and equipment controls, as well as general visual acuity for hazard recognition, equipment awareness, and interaction with coworkers and the public. Must meet Level 4 in Department of Labor's Dictionary of Titles - Heavy Work exerting up to 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, an/or up to 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.Typical Physical Requirements:
Frequent lifting and moving of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.; occasional lifting of heavier items with assistance. Climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping, and working in varied outdoor and indoor environments. Ability to work in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow. Exposure to uneven terrain, dust, dirt, noise, and vibration. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Head, hand, eye, and foot protection as required. Use of hearing, respiratory, and body protection as needed. Fall protection when working at heights or on elevated equipment.Equipment Operated:
Mowers, tractors, trucks, loaders, lifts, and hand/power tools. Basic office equipment including computers, telephones, and radios. Other equipment as assigned for maintenance, repair, and operational needs. Must successfully pass a background check, drug screen, physical exam and essential functions test.Normal Work Hours:
7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Mon.-Fri.Application Deadline:
