Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Dog Trainer & Kennel Mentor to work with rescue dogs of varying temperaments and behavioral needs. This position focuses on training under-socialized and aggressive dogs using positive reinforcement methods, while also mentoring kennel staff on proper dog handling, behavior management, and training techniques. The ideal candidate is patient, confident, organized, and passionate about improving the lives of rescue animals. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provide behavioral training and rehabilitation for under-socialized, fearful, and aggressive dogs using positive reinforcement techniques. Evaluate dog behavior and develop individualized training and enrichment plans. Mentor and guide kennel staff on safe handling procedures, training methods, and behavioral management strategies. Assist staff in recognizing stress signals, behavioral triggers, and appropriate intervention techniques. Coordinate veterinary visits, follow-up care, and treatment plans for dogs in training or rehabilitation. Communicate effectively with veterinary staff regarding behavioral concerns, medical needs, and treatment progress. Monitor and document behavioral progress, training milestones, and recommendations for placement or continued rehabilitation. Promote a safe, clean, and structured environment for dogs and staff. Support the overall mission and standards of the rescue organization. Required Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of professional experience training dogs using positive reinforcement methods. Experience working with under-socialized, fearful, and aggressive dogs. Experience working with rescue dogs in a shelter, rescue, kennel, or rehabilitation setting. Experience coordinating veterinary visits and treatment plans. Strong understanding of canine body language and behavior modification techniques. Ability to safely handle dogs of all sizes and temperaments. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to safely restrain and handle dogs of varying sizes and temperaments. Comfortable working in a kennel or rescue environment with exposure to noise, cleaning chemicals, and animal dander. Work Environment This position works primarily in a rescue and kennel environment and may involve exposure to animals with behavioral or medical challenges. Safety, patience, and professionalism are essential at all times.
