Job Description
Part-time Campus Safety Officer Salary:
$20.00 per hour I. Position Purpose Under the direction of the Director of Campus Safety, this position supports the safety and security of the campus through a combination of communications, patrol, administrative support, and emergency response functions. The Part-Time Campus Safety Officer serves as a visible presence on campus, assisting in the prevention of crime, protection of life and property, and enforcement of campus policies. The role also supports dispatch operations, incident response, and departmental administrative and compliance functions. II. Essential Duties 1. Patrol & Public Safety Operations Conduct routine foot and vehicle patrols of campus buildings, grounds, and parking areas to ensure safety and security. Check doors, windows, and facilities to ensure they are secure and report unsafe conditions. Monitor campus activity and identify suspicious behavior or safety hazards. Respond to calls for service, including alarms, disturbances, medical emergencies, and safety concerns. Provide first response to incidents and assist with scene stabilization until additional personnel arrive. Assist with evacuations, emergency procedures, and crowd control during incidents or special events. Perform traffic control and parking enforcement as needed. 2. Incident Response & Reporting Prepare accurate and detailed incident, activity, and investigative reports. Gather information by interviewing victims, witnesses, and involved parties. Document observations and maintain records in accordance with departmental procedures. Assist in preliminary investigations and evidence identification (non-custodial). Testify or provide documentation in administrative or campus conduct proceedings as required. 3. Communications & Dispatch Coordinate radio communications between campus safety personnel using public safety communication systems. Operate multi-line telephones and communication equipment to receive and respond to requests for assistance. Dispatch personnel and provide real-time information to support field operations. Monitor alarm systems, cameras, and emergency notification platforms. Maintain communication during emergency situations and assist in coordinating response efforts. 4. Administrative & Compliance Support Assist with daily operations of the Campus Safety office, including records management and report processing. Maintain confidential records in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and institutional policies. Support Clery Act compliance efforts, including data collection and report preparation. Assist with timely warnings and emergency notifications to the campus community. Support scheduling, documentation, and general administrative tasks. 5. Customer Service & Community Engagement Provide assistance, directions, and information to students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Mediate minor disputes and assist in resolving conflicts. Promote safety awareness and participate in community outreach initiatives. Maintain a professional, calm, and service-oriented demeanor in all interactions. III. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of public safety practices, patrol procedures, and emergency response. Ability to observe, assess situations, and respond appropriately. Strong communication, report writing, and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle stressful or potentially hazardous situations calmly and effectively. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with office and public safety systems. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision IV. Working Conditions Combination of indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Requires walking, standing, and occasional physical activity for extended periods. May involve exposure to stressful or emergency situations. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. V. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required. Prior experience in security, law enforcement support, dispatch, public safety or training in law enforcement procedures preferred. Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Valid driver's license preferred. Ability to meet department training requirements. Experience with law enforcement computer software preferred. Basic math skills. Superior communications, customer service and public relations skills; in person, on the telephone and via written communications. Typing and word processing skills. Microsoft office software experience. Performs other job related duties as assigned.
