Job Description

Part-Time Community News Correspondent (Eastern Fulton County, Ohio — Swanton, Lyons, Assumption, Delta & surrounding villages) Have you ever read your community paper and thought you would love to help cover what's happening — the festivals, parades, ribbon cuttings, and the people who make our communities tick? The Village Reporter is adding a part-time Community News Correspondent to assist our existing coverage team in Eastern Fulton County, Ohio. This is a couple of assignments per week — a flexible, meaningful way to stay engaged in your community while earning a little along the way. We are a small, family-owned community newspaper, so this is a steady part-time role rather than a full-time journalism career.
Position:
Part-Time Community News Correspondent (assisting current coverage team)
Location:
Must live in or very near Swanton, Lyons, Assumption, Delta, or surrounding eastern Fulton County villages
Schedule:
A couple of assignments per week, typically 2-4 hours per assignment
Compensation:
$13/hr to start, with quick advancement based on performance. Mileage reimbursement included.
Responsibilities:
Cover town festivals, parades, and community celebrations Attend and write up ribbon cuttings and grand openings Report on township trustee meetings and library events Capture personality profiles of local residents and small businesses Serve as backup to our main writers for school board and village council meetings when needed Write clear, accurate summaries of what took place Submit stories from your home office after events
Requirements:
Must live in or very near the Swanton/Lyons/Assumption/Delta area Strong writing and communication skills Reliable transportation to local events Excellent attendance — events run on a fixed clock Prior journalism experience not required — we will train This is an excellent part-time opportunity for a retiree, working professional, or anyone looking for meaningful, flexible work supporting LOCAL small-town community journalism, with opportunities to grow responsibilities and pay quickly based on performance.
