Job Description

SUMMARY:
Work shift is 12:00am - 8:00am and/or 4:00pm - 12:00am Under the supervision of the Director of Emergency Services the full-time Advocate does the following: (1) manages the Emergency Shelter and provides supportive services to residents and crisis intervention services to non-residential victims. (2) Provides legal advocacy by assisting with the completion and submission of protective orders. (3) Provides for the safety and security of the Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing units by checking doors/locks, setting alarms, and monitoring security cameras. (4) Provides hospital accompaniment for sexual assault and rape victims.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Answer crisis line and provide crisis intervention services to victims of domestic violence as needed. Provide support services for clients and their children. Complete client intakes, assessments and exits according to Sanctuary's policies and procedures. Assist clients in obtaining and Emergency Protective Order (E.P.O), Show Cause Hearing or Forth width Order of Arrest as needed. Provide legal advocacy for domestic violence victims. Provide a calm, nurturing environment for clients and their children. Document services provided and compile statistics as requested. Orient incoming clients and their children to shelter routine and procedures. Communicate in verbal and or written form with other shifts regarding client or child issues and shelter maintenance. Monitor safety cameras; check doors nightly, set alarm system and contact alarm monitoring company if needed. Contact on call staff when rape crisis call is received. Attend staff meetings and other relevant training. Responsible for the general upkeep of facility. Employee may also be asked to perform other reasonably related business duties for the overall efficient operation of the organization. An employee will adhere to all policies of Sanctuary. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Individual must be at least 18 years of age for employment eligibility. Education and or Experience 4 year Degree in Social Services field or 2 year degree with at least 2 years experience in the domestic violence field preferred. Minimum requirements High School diploma or GED required with one year of experience in the Social Service field. Participate in 40 hours of training on rape and sexual abuse issues, within (3) three months of employment. 8 hours of this training shall occur prior to the performance of a crisis counseling service. KRS 421.570.
Participate in at least twelve hours of continuing education annually.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, equipment and procedural manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with clients and employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to handle basic math computations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal; with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Certificates, License, Registration Must possess a valid KY Driver's License.
