Job Description

  • Please note...you must meet the minimum requirements and be available every weekend in order to be considered for an interview
  • Hours for the per diem position are 12:00pm
  • 10:00pm every Saturday and 8:00am to 8:00pm every Sunday. There may also be hours available during the week to cover needed shifts. Must be able to train Monday

  • 4:00pm for 6 weeks" Wyoming County Community Health System is currently looking to hire a patient information specialist.
The patient information specialist is responsible for performing a variety of clerical tasks associated with the acquisition, recording and maintenance of patient information required for emergency treatment, outpatient services or hospitalization. The position interviews patients for identification and determination of insurance and/or Medicaid eligibility. They enter data into the WCCH patient information system for records keeping purposes. This work is done under the direct supervision of the Registration Supervisor.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Courteously interviews patients and/or their representatives to obtain all necessary information; Enters data into a computer according to prescribed formats, including scanning; Creates new patient information records; Accesses patient information records and updates as necessary; Ensures that certain required information is verified prior to data entry; Obtains all required signatures from patients or their authorized representatives; Answers all inquiries made over the telephone; Generates various statistical reports; Notifies the appropriate patient care unit upon patients' admission or arrival; Directs patients, staff and visitors to sections of the hospital where service will be provided; Prepares a variety of forms such as registration, dietary and discharge; Explains hospital rates, charges and regulations pertaining to admission, discharge, etc. and collects appropriate co-pays; Maintains electronic census and distributes appropriately; Assign patients to their respective rooms upon their admission; May perform a variety of clerical tasks including filing, keyboarding and sorting, as well as switchboard coverage.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma (GED). Basic Computer Skills
