Job Description
Hometown Health Center (HHC) is seeking a friendly, organized, and detail-oriented Patient Specialist (PS) to join our front office team. As the first and last point of contact for patients, the PS plays a vital role in ensuring a positive experience and supporting efficient clinic operations. HHC is a Federally Qualified Health Center serving rural central Maine with comprehensive medical, dental, and behavioral health services. We're mission-driven, community-focused, and committed to providing high-quality care to over 8,200 patients annually.Key Responsibilities:
Greet and check in patients for appointments; verify and update demographic and insurance information. Schedule appointments and coordinate follow-ups, including hospital discharges. Check out patients and collect co-pays; reconcile daily batches. Answer and direct phone calls; document communications in the electronic health record (EHR). Assist patients with kiosk check-in and screenings. Offer sliding fee scale applications when appropriate and document income level. Maintain a clean and welcoming waiting area; monitor patient flow. Collaborate with care coordination and clinical teams to support smooth workflows.Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work both independently and as part of a team. Comfort with technology and willingness to learn new systems.Preferred:
2+ years of experience in a medical office or healthcare setting. Completion of a medical terminology course. Familiarity with HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards.Benefits:
