Position Summary:
The Per Diem Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) provides evaluation, treatment, and support services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The role focuses on improving functional abilities, independence, and quality of life through individualized, goal-driven occupational therapy interventions delivered in home, community, or field-based settings.
Position Scope:
This role supports individuals with IDD by assessing functional performance and implementing occupational therapy interventions that enhance independence in daily living activities. The therapist works on a per diem, as-needed basis and adapts services to varied environments including homes and community settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct functional, standardized, and observational assessments Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to improve ADLs Provide one-on-one therapy in home and community settings Monitor progress and adjust interventions as needed Recommend assistive devices and environmental modifications Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and caregivers Educate and train families and support staff Maintain compliance with regulatory and documentation standards Participate in care coordination and support program improvement initiatives
Regulatory Frameworks:
State Occupational Therapy licensure regulations NBCOT certification standards HIPAA and confidentiality requirements Company clinical policies and procedures Applicable IDD service regulations and ethical standards
Confidentiality:
The therapist must maintain strict confidentiality of all client information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies. All records, communications, and documentation must be securely handled and shared only with authorized individuals.
Documentation Requirements:
Completion of initial assessments and evaluations Development and updates of individualized treatment plans Progress notes for each therapy session Outcome tracking and goal measurement documentation Reports for care teams, families, or regulatory requirements Timely and accurate electronic health record (EHR) entries
Certifications:
Current Occupational Therapist Registration/Licensure (OTR/L) NBCOT certification required Any additional state-specific certifications as required
Education:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
Experience:
Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities strongly preferred Clinical or community-based occupational therapy experience preferred Experience providing functional and adaptive skills training is a plus
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in occupational therapy assessment tools and methods Knowledge of sensory integration and developmental disability interventions Ability to use assistive technology and adaptive equipment Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems Strong clinical documentation and reporting skills
Languages:
English proficiency required. Bilingual (including Spanish) is a plus but not required.
Driver License:
Valid driver's license required. Ability to maintain a clean driving record. Access to reliable transportation for travel to client locations.
Travel Requirement:
This is a field-based per diem role requiring travel to client homes and community settings. Travel frequency varies based on assigned cases and scheduling needs. Flexibility is essential as hours and locations may change weekly.
