Become the face of NMC spirit! As the Swoop Hawk Owl mascot, you will be a high-energy ambassador of the college and build excitement at campus events. You'll play a vital role in campus events by engaging with guests and creating memorable experiences that celebrate our unique Hawk Owl pride.Qualifications:
Required:
Ability to attend NMC events as fits your class schedule. Performers may not attend a function that would cause them to miss class or other program obligations. Ability to work night and weekend events, as needed.Preffered:
Current NMC student, faculty, or staff member and in good standing with NMC. Essential Responsibilities Perform appropriately as the Swoop Hawk Owl Mascot at approved college events.' Performers must take care of the suit during their performance (e.g., avoid dragging on the feet and/or pants on the ground) Performers must be respectful and courteous to everyone. The mascot will be photographed with fans and will not consume alcohol or tobacco products prior to the shift, during the photos, or during their shift in general. The mascot will engage with fans by hugging, shaking hands, and dancing. Hands will always have to be visible. Be fun & have an energetic personality. All photos, selfies, and videos of fans and the mascot must be appropriate and consistent with the Swoop brand and its characteristics/expressions. Performers are not permitted to speak or make noise while in costume. Work with their companion (an NMC employee) to let them know if they require anything or have any concerns. After each performance, communicate with the Manager of Alumni Relations to let them know if there were any incidents or if the mascot costume required any attention. Work Environment Work Environment To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The role of the mascot requires high energy and a fast-paced setting. As the face of NMC and the brand, you must work in a full-body costume that can be heavy, restrictive, and significantly warmer than ambient temperatures. Expect a mix of indoor and outdoor environments with various conditions. Mascot costumes often have limited vision and hearing; the performer must be comfortable navigating tight spaces and walking with limited sightlines. Performers will have constant engagement with fans of all ages—including children and adults and requires a high level of patience and safety awareness. Language Skills As a nonverbal performer, the employee must express a wide range of emotions and reactions using exaggerated body language and character-specific and on-brand gestures. While in costume, you must maintain the character's magic and integrity by refraining from speaking. The employee must be able to communicate with the companion to inform them of any needs. The performer must also be an effective communicator and active listener. You will need to quickly process verbal cues from companions, follow detailed timelines and performances, and use discrete hand signals to communicate safety or timing needs. Reasoning Ability The ability to read crowd energy and respond with physical wit is essential for creating authentic and memorable interactions with fans of all ages. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required regularly to stand, walk, and perform high-energy movements for extended periods of time, up to an hour. The employee must lift and carry up to 25 lbs. while maintaining high energy levels in a fast-paced setting. Must meet the costume manufacturer's recommended size and mobility requirements to ensure safe performance (including height, build, and range of motion).
