We are looking for an instructor who is passionate about Hip Hop as both a dance form and a culture. The ideal candidate will provide students with more than choreography by incorporating the history, foundations, terminology, musicality, cultural influences, and evolution of Hip Hop into age-appropriate classes. We want our students to understand where the movement comes from, recognize the artists and communities who shaped the culture, and develop a genuine appreciation and respect for Hip Hop while building strong technical and performance skills. Our ideal instructor is positive, professional, creative, and able to create an encouraging classroom environment where dancers of different backgrounds and experience levels feel comfortable learning and expressing themselves. Responsibilities Teach engaging, age-appropriate Hip Hop classes Incorporate Hip Hop history, culture, foundations, terminology, and musicality into instruction Teach foundational movement and grooves in addition to choreography Create choreography appropriate for students' ages and skill levels Select clean, age-appropriate music for youth classes Encourage individuality, confidence, creativity, and musical expression Maintain a positive, inclusive, and professional classroom environment Prepare students for performances and our annual recital Communicate professionally with studio leadership, students, and families Arrive prepared and on time for scheduled classes Follow Lumenis School of Dance policies and expectations Be available to substitute for other instructors when needed and qualified to do so Preferred Qualifications Strong background in Hip Hop dance and its foundations Knowledge and appreciation of the history and culture of Hip Hop Previous dance teaching or coaching experience preferred Experience working with children, teens, and adults Ability to break down movement clearly for dancers at different skill levels Reliable, professional, encouraging, and comfortable managing a classroom Experience in additional dance genres is strongly preferred Ability to substitute classes such as Jazz, Contemporary, Ballet, Tap, Musical Theatre, or other styles is a plus Choreography and performance experience preferred Who We're Looking For We are especially interested in finding a teacher who believes dance education should include an understanding of where an art form comes from, not simply how to perform the steps. We want someone who can bring their own personality and artistry into the classroom while supporting the values and educational environment of Lumenis School of Dance. Versatility is highly valued. While Hip Hop will be the instructor's primary focus, candidates who are trained and comfortable teaching or substituting additional dance genres are strongly encouraged to apply. Above all, we are looking for someone who is dependable, professional, passionate about teaching, and genuinely invested in our dancers and our studio community.
