A Club Sponsor is responsible for organizing, leading, and instructing the schools club during it regular season. This role involves teaching fundamentals of the club's concepts, organizing and supervising club meetings, and promoting good sportsmanship and critical thinking skills. Supports each participating student in achieving a higher level of skill, an enhanced appreciation for the values of discipline and teamwork, and an increased level of self-esteem.
Essential Functions:
Instruction:
Develop and deliver age-appropriate lessons for students in the club. Lessons should cover basic rules, opening principles, game tactics, and endgame strategies.
Club Management:
Organize and lead regular club meetings. Create a structured schedule for meetings, including time for instruction, free play, and organized play.
Student Supervision:
Supervise all students during club activities, ensuring a safe and respectful environment.
Skill Development:
Help students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and sportsmanship skills through the game of chess.
Communication:
Maintain open communication with the school administration, parents, and students. Provide regular updates on club activities and student progress.
Equipment Management:
Oversee the school's equipment and ensure it is stored and maintained properly.
Recruitment & Promotion:
Assist in promoting the club to students and families to maintain strong enrollment.
Qualifications:
Experience:
Experience teaching or working with elementary-aged children is highly preferred.
Knowledge:
Basic understanding of club rules, strategies, and tactics is helpful.
Patience & Communication:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with young children. Patience, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude are essential.
Background Check:
New hires must be able to pass a background check as required by the school district. This background check cost is at the expense of the employee.

Club sponsors choose the time and day. Work with school principal, setting up timeframe to ensure availability.
Compensation:
This position is paid via a stipend, the amount of which will determined by the hours approved for the session and activities.
