Purpose:
To assist the theater teacher/drama director in all aspects of musical direction for the Salem High School Winter Musical.
Salary:
$2,200 stipend
Essential Functions:
Auditions:
Attend auditions, provide accompaniment as needed, and assist the director/audition panel with casting.
Vocal Coaching :
Teach solos, duets, and ensemble harmonies to high school performers.
Rehearsal Accompaniment :
Provide live piano accompaniment during music rehearsals.
Pit Conducting :
Conduct the pit orchestra for sitzprobe, all dress rehearsals and performances. (Preferred but not required - if you are unsure about this, please apply and note this on your application)
Collaboration :
Partner closely with the Director and Choreographer to realize the artistic vision. Required Schedule & Availability Candidates must be fully available for the following mandatory dates:
Auditions :
Wed 9/16 & Thursday 9/17 (2:45-6 PM)
Callbacks/Casting Meeting :
Tues 9/22 (2:45-6 PM)
Music Rehearsals :
3-4 days per week throughout October and early November .
Polishing Rehearsals :
Mid-December brush-up sessions.
Sitzprobe :
Sunday 12/13 (6-9:30 PM)
Dress Rehearsals :
Tuesday-Thursday 12/15-12/17
Performances :
Friday 12/18 (Evening) Saturday 12/19 (Evening) Sunday 12/20 (Matinee) Qualifications Piano accompaniment and sight-reading skills. Experience conducting musical theater pit orchestras preferred. Prior experience directing youth, high school, or community theater vocals. Excellent patience, communication, and organizational skills.
