DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a talented and prayerful musician to lead and grow our parish music ministry while helping foster a more intentional, reverent, and cohesive liturgical experience. This position is ideal for someone who desires meaningful ministry work within a flexible part time structure and who is passionate about sacred music, congregational participation, and the beauty of Catholic liturgy. The parish is consolidating its current music structure into a single Director of Music and Liturgy role that combines musical leadership, choir direction, liturgical planning, and volunteer coordination into one integrated position. Loves Catholic liturgy and understands the role music plays within the liturgical action. Can confidently lead from the piano and/or organ. Enjoys directing and developing choirs and volunteer musicians. Values traditional and familiar hymnody that encourages congregational participation. Works well independently while collaborating effectively with parish leadership and volunteers. Desires a ministry focused approach rather than a performance centered environment. Who are we? Guardian Angels is a parish community that values reverent worship, strong congregational participation, and the important role sacred music plays in parish life. The choir is considered a major strength of the community, and we are seeking someone who can continue to build upon that strong foundation while helping guide the next chapter of parish liturgical life. Details This role will oversee all aspects of parish music ministry including: Music leadership for weekend Masses. Choir direction and weekly rehearsal. Seasonal and liturgical music planning. Coordination of cantors, accompanists, and musicians. Funeral and wedding music coordination. Support for major liturgical celebrations throughout the year.Weekend liturgies currently include:
Saturday 4:30 p.m. Mass. Sunday 8:30 a.m. Mass. Sunday 11:00 a.m. Mass (Currently covered by a volunteer group, so Director does not to need to be present) The Director will collaborate closely with the Pastor to ensure that music supports the liturgy in a prayerful, cohesive, and pastorally sensitive manner. Responsibilities Plan, rehearse, and execute music for weekend Masses and major liturgical celebrations. Serve as primary accompanist on piano and/or organ. Direct and develop the parish choir through weekly rehearsals. Select music that supports congregational singing and liturgical prayer. Coordinate cantors, volunteer musicians, and substitute coverage. Prepare seasonal music plans for Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, and Ordinary Time. Coordinate music for funerals, weddings, and holy days. Maintain music library, licenses, and liturgical resources. Collaborate with parish staff and volunteers to support liturgical celebrations and parish events. Help foster a unified and prayerful music ministry culture. Benefits This is a part time position anticipated at approximately 15 to 20 hours per week. Compensation will be between $40-$60 per hour depending on experience, not including additional stipend opportunities for funerals, weddings, and special liturgies. The parish is open to discussing structure and flexibility with the right candidate.QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications Proficiency in piano and/or organ. Ability to read music and accompany liturgical worship. Experience directing choirs or ensembles. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work independently within a part time structure. Understanding of Catholic liturgy and worship preferred. Prior parish music ministry experience preferred. Practicing Catholic. This position requires evening, weekend, and holy day availability. Mental Demands Work well with others and maintain a positive, prayerful, and collaborative approach to ministry. Work independently to accomplish tasks in a timely manner while supporting the liturgical life of the parish.
