Job Description

PURPOSE:
The Choir Director will participate in planning and leading music as an important component of Reformed Christian worship.
RELATIONSHIPS
Accountable to the Pastor. Coordinate with other staff and the choir. This is a contract position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Works with the pastor, worship team and choir to select music and develop a schedule. Leads choir rehearsal the Tuesday prior to Sunday worship and prior to Sunday morning worship. Practices with those providing special music for specific services. Provides anthem title, composer and other pertinent information to the Ministry Coordinator. Provides choir direction for the following special services unless excused by the
Pastor:
Ash Wednesday, Holy Week Evening Services, Easter, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day, if requested. Works with the pastor/worship team to maintain music library, adhering to copy right regulations. Submits requests for new music to the Ministry Coordinator or Pastor. Meets at least quarterly with the pastor to address needs/concerns and to review schedules. Reports concerns to the Pastor. Issues related to the Pastor are to be reported to the Personnel Chair. Provides at least two-week's notice to Pastor if unable to serve as accompanist. Provides sixty (60) days advance, written notice to the Pastor if terminating or not renewing this contract.
HOURS:
4 hours per week including: o Tuesday evening 7:00-8:00 p.m. for Choir practice o Sunday morning 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. 9-month contract, September 1 - May 30, renewed annually
COMPENSATION AND PAYMENT
$ 35.00 - $ 50.00 per hour depending on qualifications
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrates a professional attitude and demeanor and adapts well to change. Ability to manage and develop the volunteers in the choir. Degree in music education, choral performance or equivalent church music is desirable. Exhibits an understanding of the components of modern worship in a traditional style, a willingness to experiment with new forms of worship, and appreciation for Christian music both sacred and/or contemporary.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
Demonstrates a positive attitude and enthusiasm to engage all ages in worship. Demonstrates openness, excellent communication and listening skills. Demonstrates creativity and flexibility as an active member of the worship planning team
OTHER:
Worship is live-streamed via You Tube. The Choir Director will appear on camera at various points in the worship service each week.
