Job Description
About the Position Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church (AELC) is seeking a part-time Musician and Director of Vocal and Bell Choirs to lead and support our traditional music ministry. We are looking for a skilled and collaborative musician who has a heart for worship, a passion for choral music, and a desire to help our congregation experience the joy and spiritual richness of music. The Musician will provide musical leadership for worship, direct our adult vocal choir and intergenerational bell choir, and work closely with the pastor and church staff to support meaningful and engaging congregational worship. At AELC, our worship feeds and strengthens us so that we can go out to serve . We believe music plays an important role in that mission by inspiring faith, building community, and helping people connect with God and one another. Key Responsibilities Provide organ and/or piano music for regular worship services. Direct and rehearse the adult vocal choir. Direct and rehearse the intergenerational bell choir. Select, prepare, and coordinate music appropriate for worship and the church calendar. Coordinate special music, guest musicians, and other musical offerings as needed. Collaborate with the pastor and church staff in planning worship services. Support and encourage participation in the church's music ministry. Foster a welcoming, positive, and spiritually meaningful environment for choir members of varying ages and musical abilities. Participate in seasonal and special worship services, including Christmas, Easter, and other significant services. Help develop and strengthen the congregation's music ministry in keeping with AELC's Lutheran worship tradition. Qualifications & Skills Demonstrated experience playing organ and/or piano in a worship setting. Experience directing or leading vocal and/or handbell choirs . Familiarity with Christian worship and liturgy , preferably within the Lutheran tradition. Strong musical and choral leadership skills. Ability to select music that supports the themes and message of worship. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively with the pastor, staff, volunteers, and congregation. A passion for using music to inspire faith, encourage participation, and build community. Formal music education or a degree in music, church music, or a related field is welcome but equivalent experience will be considered .
