Music Director Position Status:

PTE .25+ (10 hours/week) Position Summary We are seeking a talented and dynamic Music Director to lead our music ministry. The Music Director is responsible for the planning, preparation and performances of music during worship services, rehearsals and special events at Christ UMC.

Reports To:

Pastor Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Provide music direction in the planning of worship services and special events Coordinating and performing music for Sunday worship services; Leads weekly rehearsals for the band Manages a music budget Participate in weekly worship meeting Occasionally provides music for memorials and other special occasions. Prepares worship song slides prior to Sunday worship services. (training will be provided) Recruitment of members to join band (as necessary). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to work in a timely and consistent manner Available during worship services and weekly rehearsals. Effectively communicate with staff and others Perform with minimum supervision Demonstrate a professional demeanor Provide clear direction, communication and encouragement for musical performers Be respectful to all church members, visitors, staff and volunteers Ability to build strong relationships with people of all ages Demonstrate commitment to the philosophies of the Church and its mission Ability to collaborate with staff, pastor and others Ability to maintain professional boundaries Ability to exercise discretion and sensitivity Qualifications Substantial experience in music performance, music education, or related field. Experience leading small and large ensembles. Experience leading worship services. Knowledge of contemporary and traditional Christian worship music. Experience performing a variety of styles and genres, especially global musical styles. Competency in voice and accompaniment instruments (e.g., piano, ukulele, guitar, accordion). Strong desire to make a positive impact through collaborative music making. Desire to expand the cultural and racial breadth of the congregation to better match the neighborhood. Work Environment At times it may be required to attend local community events. The work can be performed remotely with the exception of Sunday morning and rehearsal times with the band.
