Job Description

Overview Crums Church in Berryville, VA is looking for a Church Pianist/Choir Director with the ability to lead the choir and provide piano accompaniment to our 11:15 AM traditional worship service on Sundays. The Church Pianist/Choir Director will lead the choir and provide piano accompaniment for scheduled Worship Services and other activities in support of the music ministry of the church. Having a pivotal role in the musical life of the church, this individual is a strong team player, working under the direction of the Pastor and Worship Chair. Expectation of attendance is for Traditional Sunday Worship Service, rehearsals with the choir and other special Services as listed in paragraph 1 below. The work is done cooperatively, especially with the Pastor and/or Worship Chair. This position has the following duties and responsibilities: 1. Provide piano and choir director services approximately 5 hours per week to include Wednesday evening (6pm) choir practice, 11:15 Sunday morning Worship Service and up to 6 special Services, including (but not limited to) Christmas Eve Service, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Easter. 2. Cooperate with the clergy and/or Worship Chair in the area of general planning and leadership of the church's music program. Be directly responsible to Pastor and/or Worship Committee Chair. 3. Lead and accompany the choir during weekly rehearsals, Sunday morning Traditional Worship Service and special Worship Services/events within the church calendar. a. Select appropriate choir music for the weekly anthem or special service. b. Maintain the music library c. Provide the choir guidance for music tempo, dynamics, and other necessary directions. d. Lead the choir and/or play for rehearsals, services and events. e. Recruit new members and foster a welcoming and encouraging environment.
