Job Description

Position Title:
Director of Music (part-time) Please note that the ability to play the piano is required for this role. The Application window closes on Sunday, September 27 at midnight. General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities The Director of Music at Wayside United Church of Christ (UCC)inspires and leads the congregation to a meaningful and moving spiritual experience of God through music.
Their responsibilities are to:
Determine and lead music for one weekly (10 am) Sunday worship service, including 3-4 hymns and 3 other pieces (prelude, offering music, and postlude). Direct the church choir, which sings weekly during worship early September through mid-June and rehearses on Sunday mornings before worship (meet at 8:30 am, service 10:00 - 11:00 am). Coordinate special music for Sunday services when the choir does not sing (mostly in the summer). Determine and lead music (and possibly the choir) for special evening services, including but not limited to Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, and Maundy Thursday. Provide leadership and direction for all musicians and for the choir during rehearsal, for music during worship services, and any other worship-related musical activities. Purchase music as desired, while staying within the constraint of their allotted budget. Work in collaboration with the Pastor and Worship Committee (the committee typically meets 1x a month following a Sunday service). Maintain and/or coordinate the maintenance of all church musical instruments (primarily a piano) and maintain the church sheet music collection. The Director of Music is accountable to the Personnel Committee while working in collaboration with the Pastor. The Director of Music has the right of first refusal to be the lead musician for other services held at Wayside United Church of Christ such as memorial services and weddings, which provide additional payments for musical services. Desired Qualifications Strong leadership and communication skills Proficiency and experience playing the piano Experience with choral direction and accompaniment Ability to work with musicians at a variety of skill levels Supportive of Wayside's vision and mission Supportive of music that is appropriate for a progressive church and encourages the use of inclusive language Understanding of church organization and worship structure Familiar with church music that incorporates diverse cultures, faith traditions, and musical styles Proficiency in basic audio technology (microphones and amplifiers) Salary, Vacation, Time Off $11,500 - $13,500 per year salary, depending on experience and qualifications 5 paid days off per year How to Apply Please apply through this platform with a resume.
