Job Description

Position Summary:
We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Visual and Performing Arts Assistant with a specific focus on Choral Accompaniment. This part-time position will provide support and assistance to our visual and performing arts department, with a primary emphasis on supporting our choral classes in rehearsal and performance. This role requires a skilled and adaptable pianist with a passion for supporting student musicians in their development.

REPORTS TO AND EVALUATED BY
VAPA Program Administrator, and/or
Site Administrator Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Provide piano accompaniment during choral rehearsals, performances, and events as scheduled.
  • Collaborate with the Choral Director to enhance the musicality and overall performance quality of the choral ensemble.
  • Assist in sectional rehearsals as needed, focusing on specific vocal parts.
  • Prepare and familiarize oneself with the musical repertoire ahead of rehearsals and performances.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in sight-reading to assist students in learning new music.
  • Ability to transpose music when necessary to accommodate different vocal ranges.
  • Collaborate with other musicians or ensembles when applicable.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with the Choral Director, students, and parents.
  • Communicate needs for piano maintenance to choir teacher.
  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in choral music and piano accompaniment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
  • The ability to sit for extended periods, reach, and manipulate piano keys.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in related field, or the equivalent in experience
  • A passion for the arts and a commitment to fostering musical growth, creativity, and personal development in students.
  • Prior experience working with students in an educational or instructional setting is preferred.
Pay:
$35.76 - $39.44 per hour
