Job Description

Overview Carter Memorial United Methodist Church is seeking an experienced and musically skilled Tenor/Bass Section Leader to provide musical leadership and support to the tenor and bass sections of our Chancel Choir. The Chancel Choir is a primarily volunteer ensemble that provides music for Sunday worship and special services throughout the church year. The Section Leader will serve as a strong musical and encouraging presence within the choir, helping volunteer singers learn their parts, develop confidence, and contribute to a unified and expressive choral sound. This is an opportunity for a collaborative singer who enjoys both the musical and community aspects of church choir ministry. Responsibilities
  • Sing regularly with the Chancel Choir, providing leadership to the tenor and bass sections.
  • Serve as a strong vocal and musical model for volunteer singers with accurate pitch, rhythm, diction, phrasing, and ensemble blend.
  • Attend scheduled Thursday evening rehearsals and Sunday morning worship services during the choir season.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Director of Music and other church leaders.
  • Sing solos or participate in small ensembles as assigned.
  • Participate in special worship services, including Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Easter, and other seasonal services.
  • Contribute to a welcoming, positive, and collegial choir environment. Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Music or equivalent musical training is preferred but not required.
  • Strong vocal and choral skills, with experience singing tenor and/or bass in SATB ensembles and the ability to read and sight-read music confidently.
  • Ability to learn music independently, arrive prepared, and provide strong support for the volunteer singers.
  • Previous experience as a section leader, soloist, or member of a professional, community, and/or church choir preferred.
  • A personal commitment to the Christian faith and an understanding of music as an expression of Christian worship and community.
Candidates with strong demonstrated musical ability and choral experience are encouraged to apply. Schedule & Compensation The Chancel Choir normally rehearses on Thursday evenings and sings during Sunday morning worship from September through June. Additional rehearsals and services may be scheduled for Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Easter, and other special worship occasions. Compensation is $65-$75 per call, depending on experience.
