Something Rotten Overview:
The Pit Conductor leads and coordinates all aspects of the musical's instrumental ensemble. This role ensures high-quality musical performance, synchronization with onstage action, and a positive learning experience for student musicians.
Responsibilities:
Direct and rehearse the pit orchestra to prepare all musical selections for performance. Collaborate with the Director, Vocal Director, and Choreographer to align musical pacing, cues, and transitions. Conduct all performances and technical rehearsals, maintaining coordination between stage and pit. Assist in recruiting, organizing, and mentoring student and community musicians. Ensure all pit members have proper music, equipment, and setup prior to rehearsals. Model professionalism, musicianship, and teamwork for students.
Qualifications:
Experience conducting or teaching instrumental music. Strong understanding of musical theatre performance and cueing. Ability to lead diverse skill levels and foster an encouraging rehearsal environment. Effective communication and organizational skills.
Time Commitment:
Rehearsals 2-3 days per week after school; additional evenings during tech week and all performances.
