Worship Ministry Position Summary The Church Keyboard Player serves the congregation by using their musical gifts to support worship services that glorify God and help people encounter Christ. The keyboard player works as part of the worship team to provide excellent, Spirit-led musical accompaniment while maintaining a Christ-like attitude of humility, unity, and servant leadership. Primary Responsibilities Attend and actively participate in weekly worship rehearsals. Play keyboard during Sunday worship services and other scheduled church events. Learn and practice music before rehearsals. Support the Worship Leader by following musical direction regarding arrangements, dynamics, tempo, and transitions. Accompany singers and other instrumentalists with sensitivity and excellence. Help create an atmosphere that encourages congregational worship rather than performance. Be prepared to play during altar calls, prayer times, communion, baptisms, and special ministry moments. Maintain and care for church keyboard equipment and report any maintenance needs. Participate in special services such as Christmas, Easter, conferences, weddings, funerals, and outreach events as available. Spiritual Qualifications Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Demonstrates a lifestyle consistent with biblical Christian values. Supports the vision, mission, and doctrine of the church. Displays humility, teachability, and a servant's heart. Works well with pastors, worship leaders, musicians, and volunteers. Maintains a positive, encouraging, and cooperative attitude. Musical Qualifications Proficient in playing keyboard or piano. Able to play from chord charts, lead sheets, or sheet music. Capable of playing contemporary worship music (and traditional hymns if required by the church). Good sense of rhythm, timing, and dynamics. Able to transpose keys when needed. Willing to continue developing musical skills. Expectations Arrive at rehearsals and services on time and prepared. Communicate promptly regarding scheduling conflicts. Dress appropriately according to church guidelines. Pray regularly for the worship ministry and congregation. Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive church matters. Demonstrate faithfulness, reliability, and consistency. Time Commitment Weekly rehearsal (typically 1-2 hours) Sunday worship service (approximately 2-4 hours including setup and sound check) Additional rehearsals and special events as scheduled Desired Character Traits Worshipful spirit Dependability Team player Flexible Encouraging Humble Excellent work ethic Teachable Performance Evaluation The Keyboard Player will be evaluated periodically based on: Faithfulness and attendance Musical preparation and proficiency Teamwork and cooperation Spiritual maturity and character Support of the church's vision and mission Dependability and professionalism
