Accompanist:
Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Willamette Falls, a liberal faith community is seeking a pianist to play prelude, postlude, offertory; and to accompany hymns and sometimes the choir on Sunday mornings, with choir rehearsal one weekday evening.
Other requirements:
- Accompany guest musicians if requested
- Provide occasional transitional music to help the flow of worship
- Individual practice as necessary to learn music
- Rehearse with guest musicians as necessary
- Be open to the possibility of playing for memorial services and/or weddings (payment would be made by the families organizing the events, rather than the church) Qualifications and Competencies
- Plays fluently in a wide range of styles. Excellent sight-reading skills. Ability to play from charts, improvisation skills, and collaborative musicianship a plus.
- Understands flow of congregational worship.
- Takes direction from Minister and possibly Choir Director
- Proficiency with email
- Communicates with office and Minister in a timely fashion
- We appreciate individual artistry and make room for our pianist to bring their own style and passions into our worship each week.
The pianist is not dictated what to play for the prelude, offering, or postlude, but is rather trusted and invited to contribute in their own way, keeping in mind the theme of the service and the context of worship. We welcome a variety of musical styles, including modern popular music. The Minister may at times need to adjust selections to fit the theme of the worship service.
