Description:
Longwood Symphony Orchestra, the orchestra of Boston's healthcaremunity, seeks a motivated, responsible, and detail-oriented Operations Manager. ing to the Executive Director and collaborating closely with the Music Director, the Operations Manager will assist in a variety ofanizational activities to meet our mission to heal themunity through music. This part-time position will require an average of 12-15 hours per week; the weekly timemitment will vary throughout the season. Rehearsals and concerts must be attended in person. Other duties described below can be performed remotely. This position provides a well-rounded, hands-on experience in all areas of a performing arts nonprofit. Experience in orchestral music is a plus, and training on specific systems and standards will be provided. Duties include but are not limited to: Concert Production Coordinate and attend all rehearsals. Rehearsals are typically one evening per week, 2.5 hours, September-May. During concert week, t are two 3-hour rehearsals, plus a 3-hour dress rehearsal the day of the concert. Rehearsals usually take place in the Longwood Medical area; dress rehearsals and concerts usually take place at New England Conservatory (NEC). The Manager will need to arrive early enough to set up chairs, stands, and instruments, and prepare the space before rehearsals, and will need to stay afterwards to put away equipment and reset the room. Provide ed music and take attendance at all rehearsals Communicate with rehearsal and concert venues for production needs such as equipment, instrument rentals, stage plots, dressing/green rooms, etc. Collaborate with NEC staff to assist with stage management at dress rehearsals and concerts Personnel Management In consultation with the Music Director, manage the concert sign-up process and roster for members and substitutes, and contract paid musicians as needed Communicate announcements, venue directions, program order/timings, and other logistics to musicians in advance of each rehearsal/concert Engage and lead teams within the orchestra to address personnel and operational challenges together as they arise. Oversee thepletion of all team-duties, including rehearsal setup/teardown and managingmunications within sections and the membershipmittee Track attendance on the administration andmunicate with absent or late players Organize annual auditions, including determining vacancies in the orchestra, promoting auditions in the Greater Boston musicalmunity,municating with and scheduling candidates, assembling an auditionmittee per Membership Policy, securing appropriate venues, and trackingmittee notes and decisions Assist the Membership Committee with membership promotions Carry out and enforce official Membership Policies with assistance from the Membership Committee Chamber Music Organize musicians for chamber music performances, both paid and volunteer opportunities Communicate with chamber music clients to gather details about each performance; execute contracts when necessary. Assist with distribution and collection of chamber music binders and sheet music to musicians Box Office (if needed) Assist at box office on concert days, sell tickets and manage Will Call distribution Assist with day-of registration and checkout for
