Hunt's Memorial Baptist Church is seeking a faithful, dependable, and skilled Church Organist to serve as an important part of our church's music and worship ministry. The Organist will provide musical accompaniment for our choir, congregational worship, and other special music and services. This is a part-time paid position and requires someone who understands that church music is more than a performance—it is a ministry that helps lead God's people in worship. The Organist will work cooperatively with the Worship Leader, Pastor, choir members, and other musicians to help provide worship that is Christ-centered, reverent, uplifting, and consistent with the beliefs and ministry of Hunt's Memorial Baptist Church.
REGULAR SCHEDULE
The Organist is expected to be present for the following regular weekly responsibilities: Wednesday Choir Practice — 6:00 PM Sunday Morning Practice/Rehearsal — 9:30 AM Sunday Morning Worship Service — 11:00 AM Additional rehearsals may occasionally be scheduled in preparation for special worship services, seasonal programs, or other church events.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Sunday Worship Provide organ accompaniment for the 11:00 AM Sunday worship service, including: Congregational hymns and songs Choir Specials Preludes and postludes as appropriate Offertories and other service music as requested Soloists, ensembles, and other special music when needed The Organist should prepare sufficiently beforehand so that all music is presented confidently and worshipfully. 2. Choir Rehearsals Attend and participate in the regular Wednesday evening choir practice at 6:00 PM. Attend the Sunday morning choir rehearsal/practice at 9:30 AM. Provide accompaniment for choir music and assist the Worship Leader in preparing the choir for worship and special programs. 3. Special Services and Programs Provide organ accompaniment for special church services and programs as needed, which may include: Christmas programs Easter services and programs Homecoming Revival services Thanksgiving or other seasonal services Special choir presentations Other special worship services scheduled by the church When additional rehearsals are necessary for these events, reasonable advance notice will be provided whenever possible. 4. Weddings and Funerals The Organist may be asked to play for weddings and funerals held at Hunt's Memorial Baptist Church. Any expectations and compensation for weddings and funerals that fall outside the Organist's regular responsibilities will be determined according to church policy and communicated in advance. 5. Cooperation and Communication Work closely and cooperatively with the Pastor, Music Director, church staff, choir, and other musicians. Be flexible when reasonable changes are necessary in the order of worship or musical selections. Communicate promptly with the Worship Leader and Pastor concerning absences, illness, scheduling conflicts, or other circumstances that may affect the Organist's responsibilities. Provide adequate notice when an absence is anticipated. 6. Care of Church Instruments Treat the church organ, piano, and other musical equipment with appropriate care. Promptly report any problems or maintenance needs involving the organ or other instruments to the Worship Leader.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate should: Be a committed Christian who views serving through music as a ministry. Be supportive of the beliefs, mission, worship, and ministry of Hunt's Memorial Baptist Church. Demonstrate proficiency in playing the organ in a church worship setting. Be comfortable playing traditional hymns and other appropriate Christian worship music. Be able to accompany a choir, congregation, soloists, and other musicians. Be able to read music and prepare assigned musical selections. Demonstrate dependability, punctuality, and appropriate preparation. Possess a cooperative spirit and work well with the Worship Leader, Pastor, choir members, and congregation. Demonstrate a Christ-like attitude in relationships with others. Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding church and staff matters. Previous experience as a church organist or accompanist is preferred but may not be required for an otherwise qualified candidate.
MINISTRY EXPECTATIONS
Because the Organist is a visible part of the worship ministry of Hunt's Memorial Baptist Church, the person serving in this position should seek to conduct himself or herself in a manner consistent with Christian character and the ministry of the church. The Organist should understand that the purpose of church music is ultimately to glorify God, support the proclamation of His Word, encourage the congregation, and help lead the church in meaningful worship.
SUPERVISION
The Organist will serve under the general supervision of the Worship Leader and will work closely with the Pastor in matters involving choir rehearsals, musical selections, worship services, and special programs.
COMPENSATION
