Position Summary :
The Collaborative Pianist / Organist works closely with the Director of Music Ministries in planning and executing dynamic worship services for Hilldale United Methodist Church. This role includes playing accompaniment for regular services, rehearsals, and occasional special services or events. The Collaborative Pianist / Organist enhances the overall worship experience through music and supports the musical needs of the church.
Qualifications :
Required:
Excellent accompanying and sight-reading skills. Strong piano skills with the ability to play a variety of musical styles. Ability to play the organ or willingness to learn within a reasonable time frame. Familiarity with digital communication platforms (Google Workspace, phone, email). A collaborative team player who works well with others (staff and laity).
Preferred:
Proficiency in organ performance (willingness to train if needed). A degree in organ/music or equivalent experience.
Primary Responsibilities :
Collaborate with the Director of Music Ministries, worship planning staff, and attend occasional worship planning meetings. Provide an offertory and postlude for each Sunday service unless other arrangements are made. Accompany the Church Choir during worship and practice sessions, using either the organ or piano at the discretion of the Director of Music. Accompany special services and choir presentations, including practice and performance. Accompany all special services, including but not limited to: Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunrise, and Christmas Eve. Accompany all congregational singing from hymnals, songbooks, and other musical arrangements as requested, ensuring appropriate CCLI licenses are selected. Prepare piano/organ accompaniments in advance as needed. Notify the Director of Music regarding tuning or maintenance needs of any instruments and coordinate with the Church Office for scheduling.
Time Requirements :
Weekly Sunday morning rehearsal and worship service, currently one service at 10:15 am. Weekly Wednesday evening choir rehearsal from 7:00 - 8:00 pm. Additional rehearsals as needed for soloists, ensembles, and special services. Personal practice and preparation time, either at home or at the church. Availability for weddings and funerals as requested (Honorarium paid by the family or funeral home).
