Student - Innovation Academy - Humbug Stage Manager

The Strategic Academic Innovation department at Utah Valley University in collaboration with FanX Studios is seeking a Student Stage Manager to support a staged reading of a new musical in early development. This position provides hands-on experience in stage management, script and score preparation, audition coordination, and musical theatre development within an academic setting. The selected student will assist in pre-production planning, auditions, music and staging rehearsals, and the final reading presentation. Work Schedule Hours will vary based on project needs, including: Pre-production preparation Scheduled auditions Music and stage reading rehearsals Final reading presentation Must be available first week of May Script & Score Analysis (Pre-Production) Read and analyze the script and musical material prior to auditions Document detailed character breakdown, including: Character list and descriptions Approximate line distribution Song participation and vocal demands for each role Assist staff with preparation of audition materials, including sides, vocal cuts, and sheet music Support scheduling and coordination of auditions Audition & Casting Support Assist with facilitation of auditions (check-in, materials distribution, scheduling) Track audition participation, vocal selections, and materials Take notes during auditions for staff & FanX Studios review Support the casting process by organizing and compiling casting information Stage Reading Rehearsal Support Distribute rehearsal schedules and updated materials to cast Maintain communication with cast, staff, and FanX Studios staff Track attendance and report scheduling conflicts Prepare and organize rehearsal space Coordinate setup of music stands, scripts, and sheet music Take detailed notes on script revisions, musical changes, and cuts Maintain and update the prompt script and rehearsal materials Assist with basic technical needs (e.g., sound support if applicable) Support execution of the final staged reading Current student at Utah Valley University Reliable and able to meet scheduled commitments Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in theatre, stage management, or musical theatre Familiarity with reading music or working with vocal materials Experience with auditions or casting processes Interest in directing, music direction, or theatrical production Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines Ability to read and analyze scripts and musical materials
