Job Description
Overview Centreville United Methodist Church is seeking a passionate and energetic blended worship leader to serve alongside and under the CUMC music leadership for the 11:00 a.m. worship service. CUMC is looking for someone with strong vocals, a confident stage presence, and a heart for leading all people into worship. The ideal candidate will help cultivate a vibrant, engaging worship atmosphere while collaborating with our music and pastoral teams. The blended worship leader will bring particular strength in contemporary worship music while also appreciating and working effectively within the broader traditional and liturgical practices of the church. Job Summary The blended worship leader will provide vocal and guitar instrumental leadership for the 11:00 a.m. worship service in collaboration with the music and pastoral staff. The blended worship leader will lead and develop the Praise Team, which is comprised of the praise band members, any additional guest and supplemental instrumentalists, the AV team (whose members are recruited and managed by the director of digital media), and other logical personnel,while also providing weekly worship leadership beyond those Sundays or portions of worship in which the full Praise Team participates. The blended worship leader is a vital member of the CUMC staff team as we fulfill our mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Responsibilities Lead congregational worship during the 11:00 a.m. Sunday service and other special services and events as directed. Support the vision and direction of the CUMC music ministry director. Help create an energetic, welcoming, and Christ-centered worship environment. • Encourage unity, excellence, and spiritual growth within the Praise Team. Recruit and develop volunteers for the Praise Team. Plan and lead Praise Team rehearsals and preparation for worship services. Under the supervision of the music director's suggestions, select music that reflects the worship themes and is approachable for the congregation. Collaborate with musicians, vocalists, pastors, and AV team members during worship planning, rehearsals, and services. Manage copyright and licensing information for praise songs used in worship, including required acknowledgments and reporting to CCLI. Participate in weekly Worship Team meetings. Other Responsibilities and Requirements • Meet regularly with the Praise Team for rehearsal and preparation. Participate appropriately in the broader worship and ministry life of CUMC. Become Safe Sanctuary compliant, including submitting to a background check. Perform other related duties as assigned and appropriate to the position. Qualifications Strong vocalist with confident stage presence Proficiency in guitar preferred Experience leading congregational worship Ability to engage a multigenerational congregation Familiarity with contemporary and blended worship, along with an appreciation for traditional and liturgical worship Ability to work with a range of musical styles Team oriented, humble, and teachable Dependable, organized, and self-motivated Connectional leader skilled in recruiting and developing volunteers from the church and broader community Familiarity with or willingness to learn the Wesleyan/United Methodist tradition The information provided is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed.
