Job Description
This is a forward-facing position that serves as the first point of contact for all customers which include residents, builders, contractors, utility companies, vendors and internal staff. The purpose of this position is to ensure building compliance with building and safety code standards by overseeing and assisting with all aspects of the building permit process and supervising all front office permitting staff. Job Functions The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Supervise permitting staff in the following areas; organize and prioritize staff duties, delegate assignments, monitor and approve payroll hours and attendance, conduct performance evaluations, coordinate training, ensure policies and procedures are followed and recommend hiring, termination and disciplinary action. Assist with special projects such as surveys, technical analysis and special reports. Provide quality customer service when answering phones, responding to inquiries and assisting with general information as it relates to the Building Department. Provide technical support and oversee permitting activities in the following areas: respond to inquiries on development processes, codes, ordinances and permit requirements; review, accept, and process permit applications, documents and associated fees; track all receipts and transactions for reconciliation. Enforce City codes by coordinating inspections, issuing certificates of occupancy for commercial projects, overseeing review process for over-the-counter permits and development of permitting policies and procedures. Assist in a variety of day to day administrative work which may include answering and directing incoming calls, sorting mail, operating computer software, data entry, creating and managing records and retention and facilitating letters, memos, invoices, purchase orders, credit card settlements and other documents as directed. Review building plans for compliance with Federal, State and City building rules and regulations, codes and ordinances. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public. Perform all other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate Degree in business, secretarial management or related field. At least three (3) years of experience in construction permitting, plan review, customer service or a related field is required. Required Licenses or Certifications Valid TX Driver's License Must possess or be able to obtain International Code Council (ICC) permit technician certification with six (6) months from date of hire
Supplemental Information Knowledge of:
Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office software. Operation of standard office equipment including printers, scanners, copier, fax and phones.Ability to:
