Phlebotomist - WEARE HIRING!
! Job Description The Phlebotomist II performs high-volume blood draws and specimen collections for patients of all ages in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. This role focuses on accurate specimen collection, labeling, processing, and storage while delivering excellent customer service and clear communication to patients and clinical staff. The Phlebotomist II also supports additional testing services such as drug screenings and paternity testing and assists with patient check-out and related administrative tasks. Responsibilities Perform 25-30 blood draws per shift using venipuncture techniques, including straight needles and butterfly needles, for patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric. Collect and store blood and other specimens, such as urine and fecal samples, according to established procedures and test requirements. Explain venipuncture, blood draw, and specimen collection procedures to patients in a clear, courteous, and professional manner. Fully understand and interpret physicians' orders and accurately match laboratory requisition forms or computer-generated labels to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders to maintain specimen integrity. Package specimens for transport, ensuring appropriate containers, tubes, labeling, and temperature requirements are met in accordance with protocol. Follow all procedures outlined for specimen handling and transport to preserve the quality and integrity of samples. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all relevant safety and compliance standards. Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks as required by laboratory procedures. Update and maintain accurate patient information in the appropriate systems. Answer telephone calls, assist with inquiries, and read laboratory results when appropriate to satisfy information requests. Provide additional testing services, including drug screenings and paternity testing, in accordance with established protocols. Assist with handling patients at the end of their visit, including checking patients out and completing related administrative steps. Attend required annual departmental trainings and stay current with procedures, protocols, and compliance requirements. Deliver high-quality customer service to patients, visitors, and clinical staff, maintaining a professional and respectful demeanor at all times. Essential Skills Minimum of 2-3 years of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. Minimum of 2 years of experience as a phlebotomist. Demonstrated proficiency in venipuncture using straight needles. Experience performing adult blood draws. Ability to perform 25-30 blood draws per shift. Phlebotomy certification. Experience drawing blood from patients ranging from toddlers through adults, or a strong comfort level working with toddlers if pediatric experience is limited. Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate clearly and courteously with patients and staff. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High school diploma orGED. 2-4
years of overall relevant experience in phlebotomy or a closely related role. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced clinical, laboratory, or hospital environment. Comfort providing additional testing services such as drug screenings and paternity testing. Ability to handle a broad patient population, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients, with sensitivity and professionalism. Strong attention to detail when labeling, processing, and storing specimens. Ability to follow detailed protocols and regulatory requirements, including OSHA and DEP regulations. Effective verbal communication skills for explaining procedures and answering questions. Strong organizational skills for managing multiple specimens, requisitions, and tasks throughout the shift. Work Environment This role is based in a clinical or laboratory setting with a fast-paced workflow and a steady volume of patients and specimens. The schedule runs from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with every other Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The position is initially located at a site near Libertyville, Illinois, for the duration of the contract, with the expectation of working at another nearby location in the area once the contract concludes. The environment requires consistent adherence to safety, infection control, and regulatory standards, including OSHA and DEP guidelines. You will work with standard phlebotomy equipment such as straight needles, butterfly needles, centrifuges, specimen tubes, and collection containers, as well as computer systems and the Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and communication. The setting is professional and patient-facing, requiring a neat, appropriate clinical appearance and a focus on providing courteous, efficient service to individuals of all ages. Pay $19-23/hr Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Libertyville, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
