Job Description

Role and Responsibilities A licensed professional who provides physical therapy services to patients as prescribed by the attending physician under the direct (but not on-site) supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. Essential Functions Treat patients to relieve pain and/or develop or restore function to reach the highest level of independence possible. Instruct patients and their families in the use of prosthetic, orthotic and assistive devices (canes, walkers, wheelchairs, etc.) . Write clinical progress notes on the date of the visit for inclusion into the patient s permanent record. Attend Physical Therapy staff meetings, conduct in - service presentations and case conferences. Perform an on-site, joint visit with the assigned Physical Therapist initially, and communicate regularly for instruction in changes in the patient s program. Communicate regularly with the case manager and other health care professionals assigned to a case. Instruct patients and their families in transfer techniques, home exercise program and activities of daily living as assigned by the physical therapist. Other duties as assigned. Education Requirements Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program . Current, valid PTA license issued by NYS Department of Education required. Qualifications and Requirements One year of practical, post licensing experience as a licensed P hysical T herap ist A ssistant. Work Environment The PTA is primarily a non-office setting and may be exposed to outdoor conditions. The working conditions are classified as medium work: Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Medium work involves sitting and standing. Physical Requirements The following is a description of the physical requirements on a daily basis for the PTA.
