Medical Center in Surgical Services. The Urologist performs urological surgical procedures on pients and has surgical duties th include: admissions, consultions, preoperive work ups, as well as postoperive care to correct or tre various urological conditions, illnesses and injuries. He/she provides evaluion and trement of urological conditions. The duties consist of but are not limited to the following: Performs urological surgical procedures on pients including reled admission, consultion, and work-up, preoperive and postoperive care to correct or tre various conditions, illnesses and injuries. Makes preliminary diagnosis; directs, prescribes or provides trement, arranges for specialized care or pient referral as required. Actively participes in Emergency and On-Call schedule. Provides comprehensive urologic care including prevention, health maintenance, early diagnosis, trement and follow-up services to pients. Performs some procedures in the Urology clinic such as cystoscopy, proste biopsies and ESWLs (Electrocorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy) on SB in addition to other surgical procedures in the opering room. Management of pients during their inpient course, using consultants when approprie and performs inpient consultions on pients from other services. Conducts outpient clinics; reviews pients' medicions, diet, course of therapy, adherence to management plan and pient observions; modifies management plan as indiced; and instructs and counsels pients as required. Serves as a consultant to primary care physicians and accepts referrals and outpient consultions from other providers. Functions in a teaching capacity by educing others (pients, staff, trainees, and/or seminar participants, etc.) in the assessment, trement, management and evaluion of gynecologic disorders. Refers pients as approprie; works closely with allied health professionals; and participes in the Surgical Department Quality Assurance and Peer Review programs.

License and Registrion:

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a Ste, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United Stes, or in the District of Columbia.

Residency Training :

Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program in Urology leading to eligibility for board certificion. (

NOTE:

VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty stus.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accredition Council for Gradue Medical Educion (ACGME), b) OR[(2) Those approved by the American Osteophic Associion (AOA),OR(3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United Stes), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with approprie professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an approprie range of pient care experiences. accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rher, they are to have a "scope of practice" th allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
