GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• High School Diploma or GED - Minimum baseline for entry into the field.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES, Installation:
Read blueprints and drawings to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks, and waste/vent systems. Install pipes, assemblies, and fittings.
Maintenance & Repair:
Diagnose and resolve issues such as leaks, clogs, or broken pipes. Replace or repair steam, water, or gas systems and related equipment like water heaters and pumps.
System Testing:
Use pressure gauges and other tools to detect leaks and ensure systems meet safety and quality standards.
Compliance:
Ensure all work is performed according to local plumbing codes and safety regulations.
Customer Service:
Provide cost estimates to clients, explain repairs, and maintain a professional demeanor while working on-site.
Required Skills & Qualifications Technical Knowledge:
Deep understanding of water distribution, drainage, and venting systems. Proficiency with hand and power tools (pipe cutters, wrenches, snakes, etc.).
Physical Stamina:
Ability to work in confined spaces, lift heavy materials, and stand or kneel for extended periods.
Problem-Solving:
Strong diagnostic skills to identify the root cause of complex plumbing failures quickly.
Certifications:
Most roles require a high school diploma or GED and the completion of a formal apprenticeship or vocational training. A State Journeyman or Master Plumber license is often required for senior roles. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
First-Time Fix Rate:
Successfully resolving the issue during the initial visit.
Code Compliance:
Zero violations during official inspections.
Safety Record:
Maintaining a workspace free of accidents or hazardous leaks.
Response Time:
Meeting deadlines for emergency repairs or scheduled installations. Sample Tasks Unclogging high-pressure sewer lines using hydro-jetting equipment. Installing and certifying backflow prevention devices. Soldering copper piping or joining PEX and PVC lines. Repairing or replacing commercial-grade water heaters and boilers. Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
