Job Description

COME JOIN OUR TEAM AND SERVE THE COMMUNITIES OF ST. ANTHONY, LAUDERDALE, AND FALCON HEIGHTS!
The St. Anthony Police Department is seeking motivated and community-oriented individuals for the position of Police Cadet. The Police Cadet position is a part-time, uniformed, career development position that provides support services to all divisions within the Police Department while serving the communities of St. Anthony, Lauderdale, and Falcon Heights. Cadets work a varied schedule of approximately 29 hours per week, including day, evening and weekends. The department recognizes the importance of academic success and is committed to working collaboratively with cadets to provide scheduling flexibility that supports educational commitments and POST eligibility requirements. To be eligible for hire, applicants must have an anticipated graduation date of Spring 2027 or later from a POST-eligible law enforcement program or related field of study. The Police Cadet position is designed to provide hands-on law enforcement experience, mentorship, and professional development opportunities while preparing individuals for a successful career in public safety and community-oriented policing. Cadets assist officers and department staff with community engagement initiatives, administrative support functions, traffic and event assistance, report preparation, crime prevention activities, and other police support services. Tuition assistance may be available to assist cadets in completing educational requirements necessary to become Minnesota POST eligible.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent. Possession of a valid and unrestricted driver's license. Currently enrolled in, accepted to, or planning to enroll in a POST-eligible law enforcement or criminal justice program with an anticipated graduation date of Spring 2027 or later. Preferred Qualifications Experience in customer service, security, military, community service, or related public safety roles. Previous volunteer, explorer, cadet, reserve, or internship experience in law enforcement or public safety. Strong communication skills and demonstrated interest in community-oriented policing. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience as determined acceptable by the City. Responsibilities Assists peace officers with traffic control and traffic management at crash scenes, community events, and other public safety incidents. Assists with community engagement events and crime prevention initiatives throughout the cities of St. Anthony, Lauderdale, and Falcon Heights. Provides support services to department personnel including administrative tasks, report assistance, equipment organization, and department projects. Assists in the maintenance of department equipment, vehicles, and department supplies. Transports personnel and/or evidence as requested while maintaining appropriate safety and security procedures. Monitors designated properties and reports suspicious or unusual activity to licensed peace officers. Assists officers and staff with department training, event set up, and community-oriented policing initiatives. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
