Job Description

The Gordon Police Department is looking to hire 1 Police Dispatcher. We are looking for certified and uncertified candidates to fill this role. Our agency offers a low call volume family oriented environment. We pay for the employee's health insurance. We also offer dental and vision insurance, paid time off, and a pension based retirement plan. This vacancy is for a rotating 8 hours shift with 1 weekend a month working 2 16 hour shifts. After these 16 hours shifts you get 6 days off in a row! Overview Join our dedicated emergency response team as a Police Dispatcher, where your communication skills and quick thinking will be the backbone of public safety operations. In this vital role, you will coordinate emergency responses, manage incoming calls, and dispatch law enforcement officers efficiently and accurately. Your proactive approach and attention to detail will help ensure swift assistance to those in need, maintaining safety and order within the community. This paid position offers an engaging environment where your skills directly impact public well-being and law enforcement effectiveness. Responsibilities Answer multi-line phone systems with professionalism, demonstrating excellent phone etiquette and communication skills Receive and triage emergency calls using phone triage techniques, gathering critical information quickly and accurately Dispatch law enforcement personnel promptly using GPS and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools to determine optimal response routes Maintain detailed records of all communications, including transcription of incident reports and data entry into dispatch logs Utilize analysis skills to assess situations, prioritize responses, and coordinate resources effectively Manage conflict situations with negotiation and conflict management techniques to de-escalate tense interactions when necessary Monitor security systems and utilize GPS technology to track officer locations during responses Skills Strong understanding of law enforcement procedures, security protocols, and first aid practices Proficiency in using GIS, GPS, and multi-line phone systems for efficient dispatching and navigation Excellent typing speed for rapid data entry and transcription tasks Effective communication skills for clear, concise information relay under pressure Analysis skills to evaluate situations swiftly and determine appropriate actions Ability to handle high-stress scenarios with professionalism, patience, and conflict management expertise This role is perfect for motivated individuals eager to serve their community through dynamic communication and coordination.
