Up to $109,294 Lateral hires will be credited one year of service for every two years of prior experience up to Step 5 on the wage scale.

ENTRY-LEVEL APPLICANTS

Following Minimum Requirements:
At least 21 years of age, not to exceed the age of 34, at time of written exam; U.S. Citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States; High school graduate or GED equivalent; Possess a valid driver's license with good driving record; Successfully complete the
P.O.W.E.R
Test conducted through any of the following testing centers: Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA)
  • OR•Joliet Junior College•OR•Triton College.
A POWER test card must be dated within 9 months PRIOR to the application deadline and submitted with the application. Pay a $48.00 non-refundable application processing fee (this fee will be waived for City of Zion residents with proof of address); Complete mandatory the on-line written examination; Successfully pass the written exam with a score of 70% or higher.

Following Minimum Requirements:
Have a minimum of two (2) years experience as a full-time Sworn Police Officer; Have been employed in that position within the past two (2) years; U.S. Citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States; High school graduate or GED equivalent; Possess a valid driver's license with good driving record; No felony convictions and be of good moral character; Have ILETSB Law Enforcement Certification or be able to obtain a waiver.
