Job Description

Start your law enforcement career with Campbell PD. As a Police Officer Trainee , you will attend a POST-Certified Basic Police Academy. Upon graduation, you will be sworn in as a Police Officer, begin the 18-month probationary period , and move to the first step of the Police Officer salary range. About the Role The Police Officer Trainee is a non-sworn position while in the academy. This is more than a job—it's a career built on service, integrity, and community. We're seeking motivated individuals who can: Exercise sound judgment and remain calm under stress Read and interpret laws, legal documents, and maps Communicate effectively with diverse communities Write clear, accurate reports Meet California POST medical and physical standards Trainees and sworn officers will: Graduate from the POST Basic Police Academy Enforce Federal, State, and Municipal laws Patrol by car, motorcycle, bicycle, or foot Respond to calls, protect life and property, and investigate crimes Make arrests, prepare reports, and testify in court Build community relationships and support crime prevention Maintain equipment and assist Records or Communications as needed
Minimum Qualifications Education:
40 semester (60 quarter) units from an accredited college at application. Graduation from the Police Academy within six months of hire (21 additional units).
Age:
20.5 years at application; 21 at appointment.
License:
Valid California Driver's License and good driving record.
Citizenship:
U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien who applied for citizenship at least one year before applying (not denied).
Vision:
20/20 corrected in both eyes; 20/80 uncorrected accepted with glasses/hard lenses; waiver for stable soft lenses.
Experience:
None required. Testing & Selection PELLETB written exam (T-Score 50+) or recent Academy certification Physical agility test and 1.5-mile run Full background check, polygraph, psychological exam, and medical exam Successful candidates must show strong problem-solving, observation, communication, integrity, and judgment under pressure. Probation:
18 months after swearing in as a Police Officer.
