JOB SUMMARY
The Process / Mechanical Principal Engineer provides technical leadership and direction for complex engineering projects involving process and mechanical systems. This role leads multidisciplinary engineering efforts and ensures technical excellence across all phases of project execution. The position serves as a senior technical authority, supporting project planning, design, and execution within regulated environments.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
The Principal Engineer provides leadership and technical direction to engineering teams while overseeing design development and project execution. Responsibilities include planning and coordinating engineering activities, reviewing and approving design calculations, specifications, and P&IDs, and ensuring technical accuracy across all deliverables. The role collaborates closely with engineering teams, project management, vendors, and stakeholders to resolve complex technical challenges and ensure project success. Additional responsibilities include supporting procurement activities, reviewing construction documentation, and providing guidance during construction and startup phases.
WORK HOURS
A standard 40-hour work week is expected. Overtime may be required to meet project deliverables.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education:
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering required. Experience /
Skills:
Minimum fifteen (15) years of related engineering experience Extensive experience in mechanical and process system design Strong leadership experience supporting complex engineering projects Expertise in P&IDs, specifications, and engineering calculations Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes and standards Strong communication and decision-making skills
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
U.S. Citizenship required Familiarity with computer-aided drafting applications Ability to work in compliance with applicable codes and project requirements
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Professional Engineer (PE) license Experience supporting DOE or Federal Government projects Nuclear project experience Demonstrated experience leading large engineering efforts
