Henderson State University (HSU) seeks an Arkansas licensed, skilled and motivated applicant for the position of Director of Counseling. This is a 12-month full time benefited position that provides mental health services and prevention initiatives to the HSU community of students. The position will also serve in an on-call rotation as needed. This position offers a tremendous opportunity for a visionary and experienced mental health leader to use innovative strategies and foster creative solutions for meeting the mental health needs of a dynamic college population. The new director will lead efforts to respond to the increasing need for quality mental health services for Henderson State University students, faculty, and staff. The Director will be an instrumental member of the Student Life leadership team and should be familiar with the changing demographics and counseling needs for student populations as well as understands the mental health barriers that impede student success. A successful candidate will be both a team leader and team player, who is willing to build their team and partner closely with their Student Life team. A successful candidate will also demonstrate a strong commitment to all members of the community. They will be clinically skilled at treating a wide range of clients with varying cultural, socioeconomic, and gender backgrounds.Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide individual and group counseling, crisis/emergency interventions as needed, clinical assessment, referrals, consultation, and psycho-education. Provide crisis intervention and follow-up services. Administer appropriate psychological testing and other assessment techniques to guide clinical recommendations. Provide outreach services and educational workshops to students, staff, faculty, and administration. Foster communication and build partnerships with local hospitals, community therapists, agencies and resources to enhance services we provide our students. Facilitate the development of a strategic plan and assess outcomes regarding student needs, service usage, and client satisfaction. Keep abreast of current national practices in the provision of counseling services to college students. Develop and implement treatment plans. Consult on after-hours mental health emergencies on an as-needed basis. Coordinate the department's response to mental health emergencies, the implementation of threat assessment protocols, and intervention in response to psychological and behavioral concerns. Demonstrated competency in the field of counseling or psychology with experience serving a wide range of clients. Serve as an active member of the Heart Team to assess the needs of students who have displayed concerning behaviors on campus. Participates with other professional staff in campus-wide programs and committees Provide oversight for mental health services billing.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Clinical and administrative supervision experience. Effective leader and administrator. Experience in providing individual and group therapy. Demonstrated cultural competency in the field of counseling or psychology with experience serving diverse clients.General Days/Hours:

An earned Master's Degree. A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a licensed professional counselor or psychologist in a college/university environment or in a private, or public practice. Must be licensed, or eligible for licensure in the State of Arkansas for independent practice of mental health counseling (Psychology, social work, counseling, marriage family therapy, etc.).Preferred Qualifications:
Internship or equivalent that included supervision for counseling and psychotherapy activities, preferably with college-aged students. A minimum of 5 years of experience as a licensed professional counselor or psychologist in a college/university environment or in a private, or public practice.Similar remote jobs
