Job Description
Part-Time Property Maintenance Inspector Job Summary The Part-Time Property Maintenance Inspector performs field inspections to ensure compliance with local property maintenance codes, housing ordinances, zoning regulations, and related standards (often based on the International Property Maintenance Code or applicable state codes). This role focuses on identifying violations such as overgrown vegetation, structural deficiencies, safety hazards, litter, and general property neglect. The Inspector documents findings and works collaboratively with property owners to achieve compliance. This is a part-time position, typically 15-25 hours per week, with flexible scheduling and a primary emphasis on daytime field work. Key Responsibilities Prioritize inspections within the Borough's business districts, while also addressing issues borough-wide as needed. Conduct routine exterior—and occasionally interior—inspections of residential, commercial, rental, and vacant properties. Respond to citizen complaints regarding property conditions, including overgrown weeds, debris, unsecured structures, and safety concerns. Document violations through photographs, detailed notes, and written reports; issue warnings, notices of violation, or citations as appropriate. Schedule and perform follow-up inspections to verify compliance. Enforce ordinances related to grass and weeds, litter, abandoned vehicles, building maintenance, and public health and safety standards. Provide clear guidance to property owners on corrective actions and required permits. Maintain accurate records, inspection logs, and case files using digital tools or mobile applications. Coordinate with contractors for abatement services (e.g., mowing, debris removal) when property owners fail to comply. Prepare documentation and evidence for administrative hearings or court proceedings when necessary. Assist with related code enforcement activities, including signage monitoring and other assigned tasks. Maintain and properly use issued equipment, such as vehicles, cameras, and tablets.
Typical Schedule & Compensation Hours:
15-25 hours per week (generally weekdays; some seasonal demand, particularly in spring and summer).Compensation:
$22- 25 per hour.

Part-time or temporary positions may not include benefits. Qualifications Education High school diploma or GED (required). Additional coursework, vocational training in construction, or code enforcement certification preferred. ICC Property Maintenance Inspector certification strongly preferred. Experience 1-5 years of experience in construction, property management, building maintenance, inspections, or code enforcement preferred. Familiarity with building codes, property maintenance standards, and local ordinances is highly desirable. Skills & Abilities Strong attention to detail and observational skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with basic computer applications, including word processing, email, and digital reporting tools. Ability to interpret and apply regulations consistently and fairly. Strong customer service approach combined with the ability to enforce regulations firmly. Physical capability to walk properties, climb stairs, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and lift light objects. Certifications & Licenses Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. ICC Property Maintenance Inspector certification (preferred). Code enforcement certification or training (a plus). Additional Requirements Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Successful completion of a background check. Willingness to handle occasional confrontational situations in a professional manner. Working Conditions Primarily field-based work with some office time for documentation and reporting. Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, construction environments, and occasionally unsanitary properties. Travel within the Borough using a personal or assigned vehicle. Position Overview This role is well-suited for individuals who are detail-oriented, fair-minded, and comfortable enforcing regulations while supporting community standards. In a municipal setting, the position emphasizes public safety and compliance, while also promoting neighborhood quality and livability.Pay:
