Job Description
Duties Description Mid-Hudson Forensic Psychiatric Center is recruiting for a Psychiatrist 2 Forensic to provide a full range of care and treatment to individuals incarcerated in the State and County Correctional System. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply. As a Psychiatrist 2 Forensic at Mid-Hudson Forensic Psychiatric Center, you will be part of a diverse interdisciplinary team focused on providing culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and evidence based treatment including:
- Performing psychiatric screenings, evaluations, and examinations.
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests and procedures, diagnosing, and treating various psychiatric conditions.
- Administering psychiatric treatments, medications, and therapies. Conducting follow-up exams and modifying treatments as needed.
- Collaborating with other licensed physicians and healthcare providers on diagnoses and treatment plans and approves treatment recommendations.
- Competency restoration.
- Correctional mental health services. Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (NY HELPS) program if they have:
- License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State; and
- Certification in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN); and
- Certification in forensic psychiatry approved be the
ABPN. OR
Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Additional Comments Psychiatrists at OMH are eligible for:- Loan Repayment offering up to $120,000
- Supplemental income of up to 50% of salary by volunteering to provide evening, night, and weekend coverage All OMH employees receive a generous benefits package including:

Continued employment as a Psychiatrist 1 or Psychiatrist 2 is dependent upon current licensure and to practice medicine and in the case of current certification in psychiatry, certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
