Job Description

SUMMARY Directs, coordinates, and performs daily activities of workers engaged in maintaining and repairing asphalt and concrete surfaces of municipal streets and right-of-way by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Repairs streets and related structures with paving materials. Sets forms to grade and finishes new concrete structures. Operates heavy equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, Gradall, air hammers, concrete saws to maintain, repair, and service city streets and right of ways. Installation of guard rails and delineators along roadways for traffic safety. Assist with the removal of trees and debris from roadways and street sanding during inclement weather. Operates dump truck and loads and distributes materials for street repairs. Repairs streets and related structures with materials such as asphalt, cold patching materials or concrete. Originates and receives work orders through the work order system. Enters completed data into the system to close the request in a timely manner. Cleans public areas such as job sites, waterways, and rights of way. Services, cleans, and maintains tools and equipment, such as replacing worn or damaged parts. Sets forms to grade and finishes new concrete structures. Assists other Divisions of the Public Works Department as needed, including standby and emergency callback. Will perform other assignments and handle special projects as required. Regular and timely attendance is required as well as the ability to get along with others in a professional and cordial manner.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
In absence of the Crew Chief, supervises employees in the particular area of responsibility. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE
High school diploma / GED and two-years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Texas Department of Agriculture Non-Commercial Political Pesticide Applicator License within one (1) year of hire. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Work Zone Traffic Control certification within one (1) year of hire.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
SPECIALIZED KSA'S
Working knowledge of street, water, wastewater, and drainage maintenance procedures and equipment operating practices. Demonstrated ability to operate trenching and back fill equipment and to perform routine equipment maintenance. Must have or be able to complete a confined space training.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to work in areas where there is vehicular traffic nearby. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock. The employee regularly works in confined spaces and in trenches. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
