Job Description

Purchasing Coordinator Full-time Southern Virginia University is seeking an organized and detail-oriented Purchasing Coordinator to establish and manage a uniform procurement program. This role will focus on creating a transparent, timely system for acquiring goods and services while ensuring fair and efficient practices for university employees. This role is also responsible for the accounts payable function. Responsibilities Establish and maintain a clearly defined, uniform procedure for university-wide procurement Leverage purchasing consortiums to maximize buying power and secure competitive pricing Evaluate current vendor contracts and explore new partnerships for better service and rates Coordinate with and oversee Accounts Payable to align procurement workflows with payment operations Review service agreements and verify that contracted work meets university standards before payment Confirm receipt and condition of all items valued higher than $1,000 Provide training and information to employees regarding appropriate credit card and Purchase Order (PO) usage and invoicing process Document all procurement processes and track university-wide savings Review and update purchasing policies to increase accountability and maintain operational flexibility Identify and train "Designated Purchasers" within campus departments to streamline the purchasing process Perform other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree or relevant credentials or experience Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to work effectively with a variety of personalities and perspectives Preferred Qualifications Background in accounting, business, or a related administrative field Experience with financial software or e-procurement platforms Applications Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and contact information for three professional references to Human Resources at hr@svu.edu .
