Job Description
Job Title:
Quality Inspector Job Description The Quality Inspector supports the Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) by performing visual and dimensional inspections on a variety of welded products, including skids and cable management equipment. This role focuses on hands-on inspection work in a welding shop environment and offers a clear path for someone who is interested in developing into a CWI position over time. Responsibilities Perform visual inspections of welded products to identify acceptable and unacceptable weld quality based on established standards. Carry out dimensional inspections on skids, cable management equipment, and other welded components to verify that measurements meet specified tolerances. Use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to confirm dimensions and ensure parts comply with engineering requirements. Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to understand product specifications and inspection criteria. Assist the current CWI with day-to-day inspection activities by handling the majority of the physical inspection work on the shop floor. Document inspection results accurately and clearly, noting any nonconformances or defects found during visual or dimensional checks. Collaborate with welders and production personnel to communicate quality issues and support corrective actions when needed. Follow established quality control and quality assurance procedures to maintain consistent inspection practices. Support continuous improvement of inspection processes by providing feedback on recurring issues or opportunities to enhance quality. Act as a trainee under the current CWI, learning inspection methods, standards, and best practices to progress toward a CWI-level role if desired. Essential Skills At least 2 years of quality control experience in a welding shop or dimensional inspection experience in a machine shop inspecting welded products. Basic knowledge of what good and bad welds look like and familiarity with visual weld inspection principles. Ability to perform dimensional inspection using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings. Experience working within a quality control or quality assurance environment. Ability to follow established inspection procedures and accurately document findings. Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to inspection tasks. Willingness to perform physically active work in a welding shop setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Any prior experience as a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is a plus. Interest in developing into a CWI role over time under the guidance of an experienced inspector. Previous exposure to inspecting products for data center or industrial applications is beneficial. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with welders, inspectors, and production staff. Ability to learn and adapt to new inspection technologies and equipment as the facility continues to invest in automation. Why Work Here? You will join a stable organization that serves multiple industries, providing long-term security and steady work. The role offers a healthy work-life balance with little to no mandatory overtime, making it appealing for those who value time outside of work. You will work alongside an experienced CWI who can mentor you and support your professional growth into a more advanced inspection role as you build your skills. Work Environment The position is based in a large welding shop that has invested heavily in new robotic machinery and advanced equipment, including work related to data center projects and complete package builds. The facility is a non-climate-controlled environment, so temperatures can vary with the seasons. The role follows a 1st shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the possibility of working until 4:30 p.m. when overtime is available, though overtime is not guaranteed. You will work on the shop floor around welding, fabrication, and robotic systems, using precision measuring tools and inspection equipment as part of your daily activities. Appropriate workwear suitable for an active welding and fabrication environment is expected. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Magnolia, TX.
