Job Description

Job Title:
Structural Fitter Job Description This role focuses on structural fitting and fabrication for skid-mounted data center rack assemblies. You will interpret and work from blueprints to fit up channels and I-beams, then independently tack and prep materials using MIG and flux-core welding processes. The position requires a high level of precision, self-sufficiency, and strong blueprint reading skills in a production shop environment. Responsibilities Interpret and work from detailed blueprints to lay out and fit structural components for skid-mounted data center racks. Fit up channels, I-beams, and other structural members to specified dimensions and tolerances. Independently set up, fit, and tack structural assemblies without assistance in most cases. Perform tacking and basic welding using MIG and flux-core processes to prepare assemblies for final welding. Select, use, and maintain personal tools and equipment required for structural fitting and fabrication tasks. Verify measurements, alignments, and squareness of assemblies using standard fabrication math and measuring tools. Prepare materials by cleaning, positioning, and securing components prior to tacking and welding. Work safely and efficiently in a medium-sized shop environment, following all shop procedures and safety practices. Collaborate with welders and other shop personnel as needed to complete projects on schedule. Apply basic fabrication math, such as calculating the circumference of a circle and other geometric measurements, during layout and fitting. Essential Skills At least 3 years of structural fitting experience in a fabrication or shop environment. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints for structural steel and fabricated assemblies. Ability to independently fit up and tack structural components using MIG and flux-core welding processes. Strong knowledge of structural fabrication practices, including working with channels, I-beams, and skids. Capability to perform accurate layout and measurement, including use of basic fabrication math (such as calculating the circumference of a circle). Ability to work without a helper for most tasks, including material prep, fitting, and tacking. Ownership and regular use of personal tools required for structural fitting and fabrication work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working specifically with skid-mounted structures is a plus but not required. Comfort working with MIG and flux-core welding equipment for tacking and prep work. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality fits and assemblies. Why Work Here? You will join a growing operation that is expanding into an exciting new product line of skid-mounted data center racks, offering exposure to modern, in-demand fabrication work. The shop-based schedule provides predictable first-shift hours during the week, with optional additional hours when approved, supporting a stable work-life balance. You will work in an environment that values technical skill, independence, and craftsmanship, giving you the opportunity to take ownership of your work and see the direct impact of your contributions. Work Environment Work takes place in a medium-sized fabrication shop focused on structural steel and skid-mounted assemblies. The role follows a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the possibility of working until 4:30 p.m. when approved. Saturday work may be available from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 2:30 p.m., also subject to approval. Additional hours are not guaranteed and typically do not exceed 10 hours per week when offered. The environment involves regular use of MIG and flux-core welding equipment, structural steel handling, and typical fabrication tools and machinery, with appropriate shop attire and safety gear required.
