Job Description

Position Summary:
The Quality Technician supports the electroplating operation by ensuring all plated components meet customer, industry, and regulatory requirements. This role combines inspection, laboratory testing, and process monitoring to maintain coating quality, thickness, adhesion, and corrosion resistance. The technician works closely with production and chemistry teams to ensure plating baths and processes remain in control. This position has excellent room for advancement toward Quality Management and related postions.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform in-process and final inspections of plated parts for thickness, appearance, adhesion, and defects (blistering, pitting, burning, discoloration, etc.) Measure coating thickness using XRF, micrometers, or other approved methods Conduct adhesion, salt spray, and other corrosion resistance tests as required Monitor and record plating bath parameters (pH, temperature, concentration, current density) Perform routine chemical analysis of plating solutions and assist with bath maintenance Identify and segregate nonconforming product; initiate corrective action processes Document inspection results and maintain accurate quality and lab records Assist with root cause analysis of plating defects and implement corrective/preventive actions Ensure compliance with customer specifications, drawings, and industry standards. Support internal audits and customer/regulatory audits Calibrate and maintain inspection and lab equipment Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects and improve process capability
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in chemistry, materials science, or related field preferred 1-3 years of experience in electroplating, metal finishing, or a laboratory/quality role preferred Basic understanding of electroplating processes (e.g., zinc, nickel, chrome, anodizing) Familiarity with reading technical drawings and specifications Experience with inspection tools and laboratory testing equipment Working knowledge of quality standards (ISO 9001 or similar)
Skills & Competencies:
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify surface defects Basic chemistry knowledge and comfort working with chemical solutions Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills Effective communication and teamwork across production and engineering Good recordkeeping and organizational skills Commitment to safety, environmental, and quality standards
Work Environment:
Industrial electroplating facility with exposure to chemicals, fumes, and wet processes Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, face shields, and respirators as needed Standing, walking, and occasional lifting up to 40 pounds may be required
